I am trying to locate the father of William Joseph Brown who married Hester or Ella McPherson. They came to Alabama in the early 1800's and settled near Anniston, AL Their children were John, Duncan, Julia, Christinie, and Alexander McPherson Brown, b. July 31, 1832. The mother apparently died before 1844 when the family moved to Bastrop, LA. When Alexander married (1860) Mary Angeline Pipkin he named his children 'Ella McPherson Brown, Minnie Henrietta Brown, Hester Elizabeth Brown, William Joseph, Mary Sula, Danieil Alexander, Julia May and Cora Virginia. William Joeseph stated that he was born in SC. The only place I can find where there were both Browns and McPhersons is Anderson county. Can anyone shed any light on this subject. Another piece to the puzzle is that Alexander had a cousin William Stott who married Elizabeth Pipkin.William Stott's mother was named Mary (I think she had to be a McPherson for them to be first cousins.) The Stotts were in Orange county but a notation said that Mary was from the Western part of SC!! Any help is greatly appreciated. Joy M. Coker
Wish I could help you out. I have these Browns: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~southron/Brown/ My 4th great grandfather was Alexander Brown of Chesterfield County, Virginia. He had 2 sons, Jesse, and Alexander Jr. (b. abt 1750). One of his daughters, Janet, left Virginia with her hsuband William Hansford and settled in Elbert County, Georgia. I have not found out if his two sons left Virginia, or settled in South Carolina or Georgia. Alexander Brown had 2 known brothers, Daniel and George. Alexander's father was William Brown. I know that Brown is a very common name, but when I see the Brown surname with such given names as Daniel, William, and Alexander, I always like to check. You never know! :) Donna Schwieder ----- Original Message ----- From: "R.
