Posted on: Anderson County, SC Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/SC/Anderson/1526 Surname: Stephenson ------------------------- William H. Stephenson was born Dec. 2, 1817 in the Anderson District of SC. He appears in the 1830 Anderson County, SC census along with other family members - James, Jane, Moses and Samuel M. He next appears in the 1860 Tallapoosa County, Alabama census. Would appreciate any assistance on where any of these family members, especially William, were during the 1840 and 1850 census years. Thanks.
Anderson County connections to Greenville Co. families. I research Samuel Roberts who mar 1 Oct 1785, Pitts. Co., VA, Sarah Cooley, dau. of Jacob Cooley, Sr. of Pitts. Co., VA & Greenville Co., SC. Samuel was in Grnv. by 1790 census. He was a Rev. soldier. Had a pension. He was born 10 May 1758 in VA. He had a brother, Gabriel. He entered service from Henry Co., VA. He was drafted in spring or summer of 1780 & marched from Henry Co. cthouse under command of Capt. James Tarrant. [A Grnv. Tarrant?] He was drafted for 2nd tour in Guilford Co. (He was living in a "nest" of people who were either from Greenville Co. or were kin to "lower" Greenville Co. families.) Martha Cooley age 70, VA, was living with him in 1860 Anderson Co. census. This Martha Cooley was probably Jacob Cooley, Jr's daughter. I believe this was the same woman in the 1850 & 1860 census. The Roberts & Cooleys of Greenville Co. were associated with & or kin to the Cockrum/Cothrans & Woodsons & Hollidays of Greenville Co.
