    1. [SCANDERS] ELKIN(S) and DAVIS - Anderson Co., SC - late 1800's
    2. I am searching for information on the ELKIN/ELKINS/ELCAINE surname in Anderson Co., SC. and Oconee Co., SC. I have seen the last name for the same person spelled several different ways so it has been very difficult to work back through the records. Here is what I know: J. William Elkin (J.W. Elkin) b. & d. unknown married Jane Davis Sept. 18, 1869 daughter of Henson Davis & Elizabeth. Jane Davis b. 1854 in SC. and died 1915 J.W. and Jane had a daughter Rachel Christine Elkin/Elcain. Rachel Christine b. July 12, 1872 in Wagner Township, Oconee Co., SC d. March 10, 1940 Rachel Christine was my Great-grandmother she married Wade Presley Brock and later married Wade H. Wilson. Now a slight change in the information I had regarding the other children of J.W. ELKIN and Jane DAVIS. A letter found in my Grandmother's belongings (daughter of Rachel Christine) recently revealed that J.W. Elkin was also married to Bess BUSCLARK and she was the mother of Charity, Airie, Sam & Hugh). My mother (Granddaughter of Rachel Christine remembers the name BUSCLARK being mentioned growing up but doesn't remember why.) The letter says: (I am typing it as I read it) Note: R.C. is Rachel Christine J.W. Elkin the father of R.C. Brock was married to the mother of Mrs. Brock in Sept. 18, 1869. Three children were born to them, 2 died in infancy and Mrs. Brock is the only surviving child. Mrs. Brock was born July 12, 1870. J.W. Elkin quit his first wife (I guess that would be Jane Davis), the mother of Mrs. Brock and immediately took up with the Busclark woman. Mother of Mrs. Brock died at Walhalla in 1915. Mrs. R.C. Brock is a daughter of William Elkin, quit his first wife and took up with Bess Busclark and there were three or four children born unto them. Sam Elkin, Hugh Elkin and 2 girls. That land that Sam Elkin and one (can read this) live upon is the land Mrs. Brock claims .... the rest oft he page was torn off. I'm not sure of the purpose of this handwritten letter nor do I know who wrote it. If any of these names seem familiar to you, I would love to hear from you. Gail
