    3. CAPTAIN McBrearty Pelzer Officer Crash Victim PELZER July 24 Word was received here day of the death of Capt. John Dendy McBrearty, 29, Army Air Forces Flight surgeon in a plane crash near Albany, N. Y. Captain McBrearty was a native of Pelzer and had practiced medicine for two and a half years at Williamston prior to entering the service. Captain McBrearty it was reported was on a routine training flight with other Army airmen, enroute to Canada when the ship encountered difficulties in a storm and crashed. Mrs. Agnes Dendy McBrearty, the flier's mother, and her brother, Dr. William Steele Dendy left yesterday for New York. Funeral arrangements will be announced later. Captain McBrearty is survived by his wife, Mrs. Sarah Hepburn McBrearty. originally of Florence; his mother, and a sister, Mrs. Sarah McBrearty Ross of Pelzer; grandparents. Mrs. W. R. Dendy and Mr. and Mrs. Jim McBrearty. Captain McBrearty was graduated from Pelzer High school, and took a p re-medical course at Clemson College. He was graduated from the Medical College of South Carolina in 1936. He was for a time an intern at the General hospital in Greenville. He was a member of the Greenville County Medical society and the Lions club at Williamston. CPL BERT G POWELL Cpl Bert G Powell. 19-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Powell. of 2 G Street. Anderson Mill. died in New Guinea on April 21. of wounds received in action in New Guinea on April 15 according to telegram received from the War Department this morning. Cpl Powell who entered service at the age of 15 had been overseas since October 1942. Earlier he had completed a course of traimng at Hot Springs Arkansaw. He then transferred to the parachutists, finiishing training at For Benning, GA. His family had received a certificate from the commanding officer of 503rd Parachute Iimfamrtry stating that he had participated in a parachute attack against the Japanese Garrison at Lae. New Guinea, on September 5. 1943. In addition to his parents, Cpl. Powell is survived by three brothers, Ralph and William Powell, both of Greenville, and Maxwell Powell of the United States Army stationed at Camp Blanding. Fla. and two sisters Mrs. Kathleen Spearman. or 113 J Street, and Ivera Powell, of the home. The Daily Mail. Anderson Mrs. Nora B. Hill Claimed By Death WILLIAMSTON Jan. 21, 1944 Mrs. Nora B Hill 50 died at her home in Williamston this morning at 2:40 o clock. Mrs. Hill was a native of Haywood county , NC but had made her home in Williamston for the past thirty years. She was a member of the Baptist Church. Her husband , the late Charles H. Hill, died nine years ago. Surviving are her are one son, Jas. W. Hill of Williamston, Her parents Mr. And Mrs. Browning of Williamston, three sisters, Mrs J. T. Land of Belton, Mrs John Jones of Greenville, Mrs. J. E. Moore of Williamston, Three brothers: J. S. Browning of Savannah, Ga, Riley Browning of Westminster, and Baz Browning of Williamston. Funeral services Will be held Friday afternoon at 530 o'clock from the Gossett Memorial Baptist Church. with Rev. Ben Davenport and the Rev. Mr. Marchbanks officiating. Burial will be in the Williamston cemetery, With Gray Mortuary in charge.
