Posted on: Anderson County, SC Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/SC/Anderson/1787 Surname: Halbert ------------------------- Thank you Dan. I had an opportunity to visit the Belton, SC area last weekend. I found a 1971 newspaper piece which says his grave "is located on the crest of a hill in the Shady Grove community on Murphy Road near Belton. The burial site is in the general vicinity of the original home place." I drove up and down Murphy Road, which is about 5 miles long. There is a farm house that sits on the crest of a handsome hill. I was not able to make contact with the owner and his dogs prevented me from getting close enough to see if the grave was there. The article said the tombstone reads "Wm Halbert Lee's Legion Cont'l Troops Rev War." I will make an effort to contact the farmer.
