Tonight I was reading “Traditions and History of Anderson County”, by Louise Ayer Vandiver. Anyways I will type out this section.. "Chapter 3 - Some of the Pioneer People and Their Social Life, .... Manning Poole owned a large tract of land which included the sites of Miss Varina Brown's residence, .... (continues with Poole's lands) Chapter VI - Colonel Joseph Newton Brown..... his daughter, Miss Varina Brown, has written a biography of her father...."(book on his accounts in battles, Gettysburg and Spottsylvania, etc.) Chapter IX states she was a teacher at Anderson Female College. Also on several pages over it talks more of her father, Colonel Brown, "...has left the greater part of his property to be used for missionary work after the death of his only child, Miss Varina D. Brown." This may and maynot be her, be really cool if it is. No actual dates are mentioned in this history but it may make sense to someone else. If this was her then it was noted that her father was a very respected man in Anderson County. He read that J.N. Brown was to become the wealthiest citizen in Anderson. Wendy Campbell
