I stumbled onto the 1860 census info and found this Griffin family-just up the road a piece from my great-grandfather who was a college student. I am hoping that I finally found the parents of my Martha Griffin. I tracked this family from Anderson Co., SC, to Murray Co. GA, and then to Cherokee Co., NC. My Grandfather was born in Abbeville County, SC in 1867 and appears with his parents in the 1870 census there. The next record I found was his marriage to my Grandmother in 1898 in Polk Co., TN. (Polk Co., TN and Cherokee Co., NC share a common state boundry.) If these are his mother's family it would explain how/why he ended up in Polk Co. TN. Here are the extracts from the census records I found 1860 Census, Town of Williamston - Mineral Springs - Anderson Co., SC M653-1212-180 All born SC J.C. Griffin – age 44 Frances E.
