MCCULLOUGH, John (1806-1886); Eliza (1823-1904) Childern: 1. Alexander b. 1852 2. John Robert b. 1856 3. James Davis b. 1854 4. Sarah b. 1861 5. Frank Piece b. 1864 Thanks! -----Original Message----- From: Ceal Wutka [mailto:ceal@wutka.com] Sent: Monday, March 26, 2001 8:43 AM To: SCANDERS-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [SCANDERS] 1870 Anderson County Census I have the CD for Roll 1482, Anderson County, for the 1870 Federal Census. I'd be happy to look up your ancestor. In order for you to have a copy for your files, you can then send your address to me at ceal@wutka.com and I'll mail the page to you. Please do *not* ask me to find all the "Smiths" in the 1870 census. Send me head of household and wife's name to help track them down, or head of household and approximate age and we can go from there. Age and names help. There are a lot of entries in this census with only initials! <groan> I also have the index on CD as well as the index on Ancestry.com. Send the information to this newsgroup, please. If you already know the page number, please include it in your information. **Newbies: A good way to present information for a lookup is to always capitalize the surname of the family and present the information in a clear format. In other words, don't go on for a couple of paragraphs about all the family relations. Something like this really helps: MOORE, James (1853-?); wife Essie (b. ca1859). Children: 1. Eulas b. 1884 2. Ernest b. 1888 3. Prue b. 1891 4. Mary b. 1893 5. Louie b. 1896 A researcher can print that and have a clear and quick reference for the information you need. Also, when referring back to the same research, include the important part of the previous conversation. I personnally might do 5-10 lookups in a week and can't keep everybody straight. It's hard I get an email that only says, "Ooops, sorry, she was born in 1856," and I have no idea to whom it refers! SC, Anderson, Corner Twp, roll 1482, page 488 I found two families next to each other on the census dated 20th Jul 1870: McCullough, John, 59, M, W, Farmer, value of personal estate =316 b. SC, male citizen E. Davis, 43, F, W, Keeping House, b. SC Alexandria 18, M. W, Farm Lab., b. SC (the census taker goofed on that name, I bet!) James Davis, 16, M, W, Farm Lab., b. SC, can't write John Robert, 14, M, W, Farm Lab., b. SC Sarah C., 11? (written over), F. W. at school, b. SC, can't write Frank Pearson, 5, M, W, at home, b. SC Henry W., 3, M. W. at home, b. SC McCullough, S., 70 M, W, Farmer, value of real estate = 1000, personal estate = 100?, b. SC, male citizen Isabella (I think) 60, F, W, Keeping houe, b. 3. This is not really the official paperwork you need for your records! You should have the copy of the census page for your records. I am happy to send them at no cost because I feel you should have the proper backup. Ceal ----- Original Message ----- From: "Michael G.
