Hi, Newton Brown's sister Harriet married Sanford Vandiver Vaughan. I'm researching the Vaughans. "Van" and his brother Avery Vaughan died of typhoid fever about a week apart in a hospital in Richmond, VA. Van, Avery, and Newton Brown are buried in the Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, VA. There are over 18,000 Confederate soldiers buried there. I've been to all three graves that have headstones which their families erected; the other graves just have white markers with a number and you have to go to the office to find out whose grave it is. I went on Memorial Day weekend and there were Confederate flags everywhere. The cemetery is very impressive. J.E.B. Stuart and his family are buried here; Jefferson Davis, President of the Confederacy and family are here; President James Monroe, and, Gen. George Pickett.
