    1. CHASTEEN/CHASTAIN family 1930's-1940's
    2. I am hoping someone on the list is familiar with the Chasteen/Chastain family I am researching. Any help would be appreciated. Gail Arie is such a mystery. I can not find her as a young girl anywhere. I have tried many different configurations of her name (first and last) Ary, Ayrie etc.... Arie's dear daughter, Ressie passed away recently so I have many unanswered questions. I would have loved to have found more while she was living so I could share it with her. Information found at the Anderson Library showing street directories for Anderson shows Arie Chasteen and her daughters living and working in Anderson. 1934 Arie (widow William) Chastain living at 126 Quinn Willie M. Chastain working as a spinner living at the same address Note: Willie M. is a female - Willie Mae 1936 Arie (widow John W.) Chastain living at 126 Quinn Ressie M. Chastain working as a spinner Appleton Co. living at the same address 1942 Arie A. (widow William T.) Chasteen living at 126 Quinn Ressie M. Chasteen employee Appleton Co. living at the same address 1945-1946 Arie W. (widow William T.) Chasteen living at 126 Quinn Ressie Chasteen spinner Appleton Mill living at the same address 1947-1948 Arie W. (Widow William) Chasteen living at 126 Quinn Ressie Chasteen living at the same address According to oral family history and information provided by Arie's daughter Ressie I believe that Arie was married to John W. Chastain b. abt 1875 and d. April 15, 1928 buried at Old Silverbrook Cemetery. Airie was born Sept. 16, 1879 and died May 27, 1955. It is believed that her parents were J.W. Elkin and Rosa Bess Busclark Elkin living in Oconee Co., SC. Note: I can not prove this at this time - it is strictly oral history. She is buried at the New Silverbrook Cemetery. I was going to request her death certificate but only death certificates can be request for years earlier that 1952 I believe. I have the obituary for John W. Chastene which says he died in Columbia at 53. According to the South Carolina Death Index He died April 5, 1928 in Richland County. His Mother was Mrs. Ollie Russell the widow of Lewis Russell. Mrs. Ollie Russell died near Princeton at age 90 at the home of her daughter Mrs. Bertha McCoy. She is survived by her children R.D. Chasteen, James Russell, Mrs. Bertha McCoy and Mrs. Rosa mcLain. Her grandsons were listed as A.J., John, Barney Jr., and Furman McCoy, John Henry and James McLain. She is buried at Silverbrook.
