This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Brown, Cordell Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/hcB.2ACE/2297 Message Board Post: My grandfather was William Jennings (WJ) Bryan Brown, a son of George Washington and Mary Cordell Brown, and a grandson of John W. and Phoebe B. L. Anthony Brown of the Diamond Springs area near Gregg Shoals, upper Abbeville County. My grandfather also later lived in Iva, in Anderson County. My grandmother was Ada Hall Brown Wiles of Iva, SC, a daughter of ASJ and Ella Dixon Hall. My father, Gerald Brown, who is their son, has a publication of this Brown Family History with some information on the Cordell's: "The Descendants of John W. Brown of Diamond Springs, Upper Abbeville and Lower Anderson County, First Edition 1990." The publication was originally typed by my father and has an index-weight cover bound with a plastic ring binding. If anyone would be interested in purchasing a copy of this publication to help with any background research, please email me at [email protected] I will be happy to tell you if a particular name appears in the index of the publication. Also, I am in the early stages of trying to update this publication. If there are any relatives/family friends who have information to share, please email me, too!
I have been searching for more than 20 years for the parents of my 3g-grandfather, Ervin Brown (b. 10/1/1801, SC; d. 8/11/1875, Limestone Co., TX) m. Matilda Burdette (b. 1/12/1801, SC; d. 3/17/1871, Limestone Co., TX). Ervin and Matilda lived in Jasper Co., GA in the 1820's to 1849's before moving to Washington Co., TX in the mid-1840's. Ervin was known to friends and family as "Governor Brown". Matilda was dau. of Henry Burdette and Nancy Clark. Could you please tell me if Ervin appears in the index of your book. (Ervin may be spelled Irvin or Irving). Thanks in advance for your help. Hope to hear from you soon. This is a "shot in the dark", but I will try anyway. My 3g-grandfather, Ervin Brown, was born 10/1/1801 somewhere in SC. I have been searching for his parents for more than 20 years. Do you by any chance have an Ervin Brown in your files? He married Matilda Burdette (b. 1/12/1801, SC), d/o Henry Burdette & Nancy Clark. Henry was the s/o Frederick Burdette and Mary Ann Bramblett, who lived in Laurens Co., SC in the early to mid-1800's.
