David, There is a Oconee National Forest in Putnam/Jasper/Jones/Warren County areas of GA so that is probably where you need to look. Of course there is a Mountain Creek in Edgefield Co. (Eatonton Messenger, 26 July 1960) Moved c. 1788 to South Carolina, recorded in the Edgefield Dist. in the 1790 Census (he received a land grant after the war in the amount of 464 acres in Edgefield on 5 September 1791); moved to Warren County, Georgia by 1795 and Putnam County, Georgia in 1807. 1830 Jones County Georgia Census lists Carey Cox Jr. and two of his brothers-in-law nearby, Asa Wall and Sion Hill. Military Service: Revolutionary War - North Carolina Line Religious Affiliation: He was a Primitive Baptist Minister; member of William Creek Baptist Church in Warren Co., Georgia. Buried on the plantation of his son Cary, Jr., which is now part of the Ocene National Forest (Mountain Creek, Edgefield County, S.C.) ___ Above it states something about "Ocene National Forest" near Mountain Creek.
