Author will sign Anderson County history book By Emily Huigens / Independent-Mail July 11, 2003 Faces from Anderson County's history stare up from the pages of Howard Woody's new book: The Anderson Cotton Mill's baseball team, Amelia Earhart landing at Anderson's airport, and endless supplies of school children, standing stiffly in front of the camera. One in a series of books about South Carolina counties, "South Carolina Postcards: Volume IX," is a 126-page collection of postcards that reflect the lives of Anderson county residents in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Author Howard Woody will sign copies of the book at the Anderson County Museum this afternoon from 1 to 3 p.m. Designed for anyone with roots in Anderson County, or even for newcomers who want to acquaint themselves with their new home's past, the book includes pictures of historical schools, courthouses and mills in their early incarnation, as well as portraits of people in and around them. The more than 200 images include some that aren't even in the Anderson County Museum's collection, said Catherine Bergstrom, Anderson County Museum curator. "It's a great resource," she said. "It's just a great book for the people of Anderson County and for visitors that come through." The book will be on sale at the museum for $20. The Anderson County Museum is located at the corner of Greenville and McDuffie streets.
