Thanks, La Vera. I have seen the Gambrell name near COX in the censuses. At first I had thought that my Beverly might be a son of the Beverly whose will was written in 1796, and that might be right. He names his wife Mary and mentions the upbringing and schooling of his children. This leads me to believe his children were all quite young. Maybe he was the father of my Beverly who was born in 1793. Does anyone know the maiden name of his wife Mary? My Beverly married Celia Johnston/Johnson about 1814, about the time he was discharged from service in the War of 1812. I believe one of his sons was Dempsey COX, because he lived near Beverly. The military records say he and Celia had six children. Celia died about 1842/3 and Beverly married Sarah Ann MARTIN in 1843. I descend from this marriage.
