    3. Hi Betsy, J. D. King's title was not honorary. Prior to the Civil War (contrary to what some people claim) it is almost impossible to find honorary titles in SC. He was an antebellum militia officer, elected by his men. J. D. King was a prominant man in the White Plains neighborhood, where he was elected militia officer and deacon.
