Dear Joyce, It depends upon the time period. When the census was taken people in SC were listed as being in a certain regiment which denoted their location. You can correlate this by looking at the census records for Belton, Anderson Co., SC at the top of the census page for the time period of your referenced data. From some time after the RW to 1868 SC men 18-45 were required to serve in a militia unit. Data on these service records are hard to find. However there is a book SOUTH CAROLINA'S ANTEBELLUM MILITIA by Michael E. Stauffer which shows the information I am talking about. Finding any records is another thing. Best bet as a first start would be to search http://www.archivesindex.sc.gov/search/default.asp<http://www.archivesindex.sc.gov/search/default.asp> for the person you seek and the unit you are looking for information on.
