Cordelia, Are you talking about the 1800 Old Pendleton census that is in book form with comments? I have looked at that. My J. B. Clarkes are John Baylis Clarke, Sr. and Jr. I know about the Christopher Clark family and I don't think that they are part of that immediate family. I know John was born in SC c1791, but he is not in Anderson in the 1830 census and first shows up there in 1833 at an estate sale. He starts paying taxes there in 1836, the same year he bought land. He could have been in Greenville because he married Jennie Sammons and the Sammons/Salmon family was in Greenville. There are three John Clarkes in the 1830 Greenville census, but I have not been able to look at a full copy to see if one of the last two is mine. 1830 CLARK JOHN T. Greenville County SC 290 Greenville District 1830 CLARK JOHN Greenville County SC 290 Greenville District 1830 CLARK JOHN Greenvill County SC 312 Greenville District John Clarkes are very hard to trace. This family did spell their name with an "e" and the end, and they were not farmers but had a trade. Sr. was a carpenter and cabinet maker and Jr. was a merchant tailor. Thanks for your interest!!
