Posted on: Anderson County, SC Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/SC/Anderson/1853 Surname: Buckhannan, Buchanan, Howell ------------------------- Am reseraching the Buckhannan/Buchanan and Howell families of Anderson Co SC during the period of 1810 and after. My ancestor James Buckhannan/Buchanan born ca 1799/1808 was born in SC and moved to Forysth Co GA ca 1839. He is shown in the 1840 fed census of this GA county. His wife's name was Lucinda, and I have a record that states her maiden name to be Howell, however at this time, I do not have a marriage record for support. My line comes down thru their oldest son, Samuel. They had other sons with given names William, John, & Andrew Jackson. These son's given names match given names for the Buckhannan/Buchanan families listed in the 1830 fed census for Anderson County. There were also Howells living close by these families in that 1830 census year. I would appreciate any leads and would certainly consider exchanging information. Thanks in advance. HAPPY NEW YEAR ! !

Hi, Teresa I'm researching a Gilmer family in Anderson County and have just gotten a deed that mentions a Lemuel Buckhanon. Is he one of yours? I don't know much about these Gilmers so am pursuing any kind of lead at all! Lemuel Buckhanon sold to G.W. Gilmer, 50 acres on Richland Creek. Book B-2, p. 3 and 4 and was recorded on Dec. 22, 1852. George Washington Gilmer bought this land 9 Nov. 1852, and sold it on 11 Oct., 1855. He purchased it from Lemuel Buckhanon, and the purchase was witnessed by Kelley Sullivan and William H. Gilmer. He sold the land to Archibald Simpson, and this was witnessed by J.M. Simpson and Kelly Sullivan. I've found Richland Creek on an Anderson County map, and it's south west of Anderson township. Thanks for any clues! Rebecca Akins
