He and family came from Anson/ Richmond,/Montgomery Counties, North Carolina. Seek exchange with other researchers about sources, migration patterns, family groups,etc. His family was composed of son John, daughters Margaret & Peggy. Wife was Mary Ripley. This family moved on to Hardin County, Kentucky by 1799, where Charles Travis was a Capt. in the Kentucky Militia. (Supposedly an officer in the North Carolina Militia also (1795). Settled on "23 Creek" on Keowee River. Did the geography of the area change with the building of Lake Keowee? ANY and All help appreciated! New to research in the Golden Corner area

    3. According to my local expert, Ingrid Jackson of Pendleton she says "Dr. Jim Megason of Carnegie-Mellon University will be returning to the area in the very near future. He has done extensive research in local Black history in this area - much of his findings are at the Strom Thurmon Institute here on campus. I don't know of either of these two people listed below. I will find out when Dr. Megason will be on campus too." I believe he has also researched the slave population on the Calhoun plantation as well. Daniel was born between 1780-1790. His wife was Margaret Chisholm (unsure of her maiden name). She was born "around" 1800, according to the 1850 Monroe County, AL census. Children in the Daniel/Margaret's household in Monroe County in 1850 were: Elizabeth - 28 from NC - born around 1822 Sarah - age 30 from NC - born around 1820 Mary - age 26 from NC - born around 1824 Neal R. - age 22 from AL - born around 1828 Ann - age 18 from AL - born around 1832 Mary Chisholm - listed on the 1830 census for Monroe County, AL. She lived beside Daniel Chisholm and was between 50-60 years old - born between 1770-1780. I believe she is living in the household with Daniel in 1840. Elbert Chisum - age 45 on the 1850 Monroe County, AL census. His wife was Sarah Chisholm - age 42 on the 1850 census. Elbert was born around 1805. Children were: Sarah J. - age 15 on the 1850 census - born in AL around 1835 Elbert - age 12 - born around 1838 William P. - age 8 - born in AL around 1842 Richard P. Chisholm - probably owned land around this time as well. Became indebted to a Henry L. Allen and Edward L. Smith (Smith and Allen) in 1832. Hugh Chisholm - may have been Daniel Chisholm's son. He was born "around" 1823 in Alabama. In Monroe County, he held several land patents above Beatrice, AL. In 1850, he is listed in Escambia County, FL - Pensacola. He married Mary Ann Elizabeth McMillan (from AL) on Feb. 14, 1850. His son was named Daniel T. Chisholm. Hugh worked in Pensacola at the Navy Yard as a carpenter; he was in the shipping business according to a family source. He was killed or died before 1850 - before his son was born on Dec. 25, 1850. John Chisholm - was also a carpenter - born in NC in 1810. He married Matilda Curry (from Georgia) in 1834. John held land patents near Hugh and Daniel Chisholm. After 1840, John and Matilda moved to Mobile County, AL. Their children were: 1850 Mobile County, AL census John Chisholm was 40 years old, a carpenter from NC Matilda was 37 years old from Georgia William Allen Chisholm was 14 years old - he later married Martin Arledge's daughter, Nancy Elizabeth Arledge, and they moved to Winn Parish, LA. Ann Elizabeth "Eliza" was 16 years old. She married Thomas Ellis George E. was 11 years old John E. or A. was 10 years old Amanda J. was 7 years old Andrew J. was 5 years old Daniel was 3 years old Any help on WHERE exactly these Chisholms came from in South or North Carolina would be GREATLY appreciated!!! Airie died May 22, 1955 and the obituary lists a daughter by her first marriage to D.V. "Doc" Welborn. In notes from my cousin (daughter of Airie by her 2nd husband John W. Chastain), she describes Car Lee in the following way. Perhaps this information may help. Car Lee had a boy named Johnny. Billy died in April and Johnny died in May. He was 5 years older than Billy. Lee had a girl named Margaret. She was born 3 months after Billy. That is about all I have to go on right now. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. Gail - Bel Air, MD

I wrote to this address a few years ago and the letter came back. Since I found this name and address in my mother's belongings I'm sure Henry King is related to my great grandmother, Malinda Louisa King Martin b 2 June 1851 Belton, SC d 2 Jan 1923 Anderson, SC who was wed to Lucius Sterling Martin b 13 Nov 1850 SC d 6 Mar 1898 with children Carrie Elizabeth wed Joseph Eli Clark, Lou Etta wed T.D.Smith 2nd Charles Otis, Lucia Polly died age 7, Nannie J. wed a Mr Boggs, and Thomas Alonzo wed Ida Spires of Telfair county, Georgia. Thomas Alonzo and Ida Spires Martin are my grandparents. The parents of Malinda Louisa "Lindy" King are Peter King b abt 1812 and d Abbeville, SC. There is a large white house that has been burned and there is a For Sale sign in front of it that gives a disconnected phone number to call - 843-215-0055. It's been reported that deep in the woods in back of the Am-Can Shipping Company is 5 Earle graves. We have spent hours looking for these graves. Do you happen to know exactly where they are located?     3. 0.5 mile south of Piercetown - SW corner of 81 & Shackelberg Roads. It has been reported that an old Elrod Family cemetery is located in a planted field that's directly across the street from a large white painted house at the SE corner. In this field is a small dirt mound with a pipe stuck in the top of it. The landowner was not there when we viewed the mound. Can you confirm that the above location is actually an Elrod Family cemetery?     2. John Tindal King, born 8 July 1854 in Piedmont, died 14 May 1909 in Memphis Tenn. He was a carpenter working there at the time of his death. He is buried in Shiloh Methodist Church Cemetery in Piedmont. Where can I find information on his death, how the body got back to S.C., an obituary or newspaper article? His wife was Hannah Julia Taff (Taft) from Greenville. They had children born in Williamston, S.C., the oldest Sarah Jane, in 1884. Sarah Jane King married Henry Porter Blackman and had a daughter in 1904 in Pelzer. Any leads would be greatly appreciated. Elizabeth Alleman esa2204 @aol.com
