    3. Posted on: Anderson County, SC Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/SC/Anderson/1512 Surname: Moorhead ------------------------- Robert Moorhead was a member of that family and is also buried in the Concord Ch. cemetery in Anderson. You would never know that cemetery was there for the trees. Anyway, I have a long article that was published upon the death of Robert Moorhead, who was a Conf. veteran, as you probably know. The article covers his lineage and how his ancestors came to America, built their home, etc. I also have a tiny picture of him (click on "Military Information" and read the information I submitted on the Palmetto Riflemen/Palmetto Sharpshooters) and can put you in touch with another descendant of the Moorhead family who may have more information. Also, another descendant is Lewis Moorhead, the photographer. He is in his 90's and lives on Power Street. Very interesting old gentleman.

    3. Posted on: Anderson County, SC Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/SC/Anderson/1511 Surname: ------------------------- First of all, I agree with Mr. Holcombe, a professional genealogist; my folks have been here in Anderson county since at least 1820 and the Indians were long gone from these parts when whites settled. On another subject you may be interested to know that the name Stonecypher, very similar to your's (or your husband's) appears on the 1897 map of Anderson county. J. F. Stonecypher was living in the Rock Mills township when the map was made. I recall that a Stonecypher lady was living in Sandy Springs until a few years ago. I always thought that was an interesting name. Reproductions of this large map are only $3 plus shipping and can be ordered through the Anderson chapter of the S.C. Genealogical Society. Ordering info can be found at this site.

    3. Posted on: Anderson County, SC Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/SC/Anderson/1510 Surname: ------------------------- Greetings: My name is Dan Snipes and I am Adjutant of the Palmetto Sharpshooters Camp, Sons of Confederate Veterans in Anderson, S.C. My camp owns a copy of the S.C. volume of the Confederate State Roster, published in 1998 by Broadfoot Publishing Co. of Wilmington, NC. This book lists all South Carolinians whose service records are on file with the Nat'l Archives. I checked the book for Hanks and I will list all the Hanks from S.C. who appear. I will list first names only since they are all Hanks. HANKS Francis 1st. Inf., Co. E&H J.M. Sgt., 2nd. Inf. Co. E J.T. 1st Artillery, Co. A James Heavy Artillery 15th Bttn., Co.A James 6th Reserves, Co. F James A. 1st (Orr's Rifles) Co. K Jesse 20th Inf. Co. E John M. Sgt., 20th Inf. Co. E L.B. 4th State Troops, Co. I Luke, Sgt. 20th Inf. Co. E Nimrod 1st. State Troops Co. C Stephen 1st State Troops Co. C Thomas 19th Cav. Bttn. Co. B W. J. 17th Inf. Co. B Wm. K. 6th Inf. 2nd Co. H Of these the most likely to be from Anderson are those who served in Co. E of the 20th Infantry and the one in Orr's Rifles. This doesn't mean your Hanks didn't serve, it just means the Nat'l Archives has no record of him. Did he survive the war? If so, or if he had a widow living until about 1920, he or she may have applied for a Conf. pension. Pensions didn't come about til about 1919, but a pension application has a lot of information. The Anderson library has a copy of the Anderson county Conf. pension applications on microfilm. The library will close for one month beginning 9/1/00 while it moves into the new building on N. McDuffie St. By the way, I have an index to the 1897 Anderson county map and his name does not appear on it; there are eleven Hanks on it though. Dan
