    3. Anderson County connections to Greenville Co. families. I research Samuel Roberts who mar 1 Oct 1785, Pitts. Co., VA, Sarah Cooley, dau. of Jacob Cooley, Sr. of Pitts. He entered service from Henry Co., VA. He was drafted in spring or summer of 1780 & marched from Henry Co. cthouse under command of Capt. James Tarrant. [A Grnv. 3. Posted on: Anderson County, SC Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/SC/Anderson/1515 Surname: Hanks ------------------------- Dan, Thanks so much for the list of Hanks who served the Confederacy. By family tradition, James T. Hanks of Anderson County, SC was a hatmaker for the Confederate Army. I assumed he was contracted to make the hats. I knew nothing of him being a soldier. Recently, it has been suggested to me that he was possibly military personnel who just happened to make hats for them. He lived until 1882.I appreciate you taking the time to check on this material for me & other Hanks researchers who might need the names of Hanks who served in the Confederacy.

Posted on: Anderson County, SC Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/SC/Anderson/1513 Surname: Reid ------------------------- My grandfather, Charles Reid, was from Oconee county, so no relation to your line, but, are you familiar with the book by Jesse Walton Reid? I think the title is 4th Regiment or something like that. I lent mine and it was not returned. The book consists of his letters home while he was in the Conf. service through First Manassas. He was older so was sent back to SC to be a recruiter. The book is still available. His son also served and they have some descendants in the area of the Anderson-Pickens county line near the Slabtown community I think. If you happen to be related to Crayton Reid, CSA veteran, I have a rough photo of him in uniform and lengthy obituary. He was born in Abbeville county, joined Conf. army from Anderson, then became a merchant in Walhalla after the war.
