Hi, Trisha You need the Anderson County Cemeteries, Vol. 7, available from the Anderson County Genealogical Society, Box 5743, Anderson, SC 29623-5743 I didn't find a McGill or a Center at Union Baptist, but there are a lot of McGills buried in Anderson County at various cemeteries. What was her full name? Good luck with your McGill. Rebecca Akins
Posted on: Anderson County, SC Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/SC/Anderson/1765 Surname: Banister, Bannister, Campbell, McCullough ------------------------- Tricia, Last night I responded to Brook Sutherland's message, but I must not have hit the right key because it is not on there this morning. The following is what I wrote: Samuel McGill, born 1743 in Ireland; married October 2, 1767 to Elizabeth Gambrell Spinster. He came to America in 1761 at the age of 23 from Belfast or Jonesborough Township in Northern Ireland to Charleston, SC His children were John H., Ezekiel, Sarah, Mary Ann and William. There is a book I bought several years entitled GAHTERING MCGILLS AND KINFOLK 1766 TO 1995 by P. O. McGill, 6214 U. S. Highway 76, Belton, SC 29627. It is a very informative book, but I have found some mistakes as to our line. I have heard that Mr. McGill is now deceased. If any of the above names are familiar, please let me know. Joyce
My GGGrandfather Francis Marion Hudgens/Hodgens obit list the following daughters: Mrs. E.M. Cooper(Emmie)of Lownsville Mrs. W.T. Davenport(Mamie) of Pelzer Mrs. G.E. Cheek(Carrie E) of Greenville Mrs A.B. Cox(Eula) of Westminster Mrs D.F. Riddle(Roie)of Pelzer also a grandson named Adgar James whos mother was his daughter, Lyda or Mary. If any of these names are familar to you please contact me. Thank you, Derrell Oakley Teat
I have a McGill whom I have not had the opportunity to research in detail. She was Sallie (mayber Sarah) Elizabeth McGill born April 20, 1856 and died 1938. She is my great grandmother. She married Charles Pinkney Elrod in 1873. They were in Pickens County, Alabama. Both are buried at Dunn's Creek Cemetery, Pickens County, Alabama. Now, according to "family tradition" (you know how far you can throw that) Sallie's father was a John McGill from Anderson County, SC. His father is said to be William McGill born 1725 in Ireland and died 1813 in SC. That is all the information I have. I have found this in a book of abstracts in my possession. "WILL OF SAMUEL MAGILL Son William. Two daughters Sarah and Mariann Magill. Executors: Son William and daughter Sarah. Dated 1 June 1839. Wit.: L. Bozeman (signed) Samuel Megill Ezekial McGill Samuel H. (X) McGill Proven 30 Dec. 1839. Now this is too early to be my Sarah (Sallie). Are these yours? Do you have anything that might help me???? Posted on: Anderson County, SC Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/SC/Anderson/1762 Surname: McGill, Center, Grogan ------------------------- You have peaked my curiosity. My great-grandmother was Minnie Lee McGill Center. She was from the Anderson/Greenville/Spartanburg area. I don't know anything about her except that she died when my grandmother was only 9 years old. That would have been around 1925. I do know that she had several sisters: Maude, Ola, and Effie and at least one brother, Robert. She was married to Lat Center. She had three children: Alice, Fred and Lynde. Is there any connnection with your McGill's? I have nothing to go on. I do know that she is buried in SC somewhere. Near a church. Maybe this Union Church? Any info would be appreciated. Tricia Ashe

I am a descendent of a Samual McGill who was in Anderson County in 1790 and was from Ireland (Evidence points that he arrived in Charleston in 1766). My grandfather is descended from Samuel and was named Augustus "Gus" Hudgens McGill. He was a member of Union Baptist Chuch of Iva, SC. I know little about his background other than he had a several siblings and step-siblings and he married Louise Pettigrew. I would have attended the reunion had I known about it. Any info would be appreciated. M. Brook Sutherland, Jr Norcross, Gwinnett County, Georgia

-------- Original Message -------- Subject: RE: [SCANDERS] BEATYS Date: Tue, 7 Nov 2000 08:08:39 -0800 From: "David " <stephenson@georgia.com> To: "Susan" <SCANDERS-L-request@rootsweb.com> Hi Susan, I think we have chatted prior, I Have some information on Beaty that was connected to a early William stephenson in the area, this may or may not help ya,I have Information that a R Green Beaty married a William Stephenson the date ukn for sure but abt 1790 ish I think, but My feeling is this is the same William Stephenson That Died in Franklin County in 1802 , It was stated in some information that R Green Beaty died and William then married another woman, I think it would be safe to presume that William Stephenson was the William of land owning status in Franklin County,Land by purchase of 1000 acres for $150.00. This William Prior to this was from Green County, Deed in Franklin States this to the effect, He was a planter and I would presume he lived in Green County abt 1795 ish, I don't think this William Lived In Franklin County, But he owned it and farmed it, I would presume that he Lived In The many areas around Pendelton prior to 1790, This William May in fact be the Same William That migrated down from North Carolina and had a twin brother. I can't recall the name right now but could look it up for you is needed if need. The Information I had on Julia was that she was the daughter of John Stevenson burred at Mountain Creek, Is that correct? I would like to share dates of birth and death on Julia and her line, I don't have them, Thanks david -----Original Message----- From: Susan [mailto:SCANDERS-L-request@rootsweb.com] Sent: 2000-10-30 20:28:48 To: SCANDERS-L@rootsweb.com [mailto:SCANDERS-L@rootsweb.com] Subject: [SCANDERS] BEATYS Posted on: Anderson County, SC Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/SC/Anderson/1707 Surname: BEATY, MCDONALD, YEARGAIN, PICKERING, FISHER, OUZTS ------------------------- I am trying to find out info about Sarah P. Posted on: Anderson County, SC Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/SC/Anderson/1753 Surname: cox ------------------------- I am responding to a query on Rial Cox of Anderson County in SC will of John Cox. 1860 Texas Census for Wood County has families of Israel or Isreal Cox and Rial Cox, both born in SC. I believe that these two names should be considered together -probably "Rial" and perhaps "Real" were nicknames of the two brothers - shown by some research to be twins. Because these names were tongue twisters, one of both or them probably used a nickname. Recommend research also follow variation Azarial. Jerry Tonroy Columbia SC
