Bob; No, but there are a lot of folks working on it. I am convinced that Alexander is my ancestor. I am also certain that William Russell McAlister (1807-after 1870) is my g g grandfather. Between them is the problem. I believe Andrew is William Russell McAlister's father (or grandfather). But which one? That's the problem for me. Let me know if you have any further. I'll do the same. Jim McAlister

Posted on: Anderson County, SC Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/SC/Anderson/1780 Surname: SHERARD, WINFIELD, KENNEDY ------------------------- I don't know if I am related to a David Sherard or not. I very well could be, I guess, but have no way of knowing that. He probably is a very distant cousin. The only names I have re my Sherard line are Alexander Sherard, Sr. and Alexander Sherard, Jr., plus my gg grandmother, Sarah "Sallie" Sherard, all of Anderson County, SC (specifically, from around Moffattsville or Iva, SC, I believe). I believe the first Alexander Sherard and wife, Martha Wylie or Wiley Sherard established a post office at Moffatsville and Alexander was a merchant.

Book of the Dead lists only a Ruth and a W.M Halbert as buried in Anderson county. She buried in Williamston Memorial (cemetery?) and he in "Holbert" (sic) private cem. The more recent cem. surveys may have more. W. M. appears to be a Rev. War vet.

Posted on: Anderson County, SC Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/SC/Anderson/1775 Surname: Cox ------------------------- To Dan -- of Piedmont SC -- on Anderson County SC Various Cox researchers in/from Texas are descendants of Azariah or Israel Cox, sons of John Cox d 1816 and had mill at mouth of Big Generostee Creek. Sons named in will William oldest Ned(Edward) John James - minors Tilman Azariah Israel Hiram plus daughters Elizabeth, Naomi, Sarah, Cassia, Delilah, Alley. These are otherwise the Coxes with 60 dollars from will plus 2 years of schooling for the young ones. In about 1805 a John Cox of Pendleton District bought two islands in Savannah River across from mouth of Generostee Creek (big). 1816 will of John Coxes mentions his Irelands (islands). That location is about two miles south of US 29 bridge across Savannah River -- west of Iva. Can you help us trace the line of this John Cox back? Deed research (good unless John Cox Jr sold the property to another John Cox between 1796-and 1816) indicates that John Cox Jr. bought the property in 1790s from Beverly Cox. A John Cox Sr gave property to his son Beverly in 1790s. Some details indicate that John Cox Sr and John Cox Jr. would be descendants of or related to the William Cox of Warrior Creek on Enoree River who died 1783. He may be grandson of John Beverly who died in NC in 1737. Since there are so many Coxes in early Pendleton District, I hope these details provide a clue. Younger son's of John Cox d 1816 went west -- Tilman and Hiram also... Thanks Jerry Tonroy -- Columbia SC g2grandson of Israel Cox
