Apologies for multiple postings. My brick wall has turned out to be James M. Wood of Pickens Co. SC. According to will and estate information of John Mauldin of Anderson Co., and Godfrey Mauldin of Pickens Co., SC, James md. Elizabeth Jane Mauldin between 1832-1835 in Anderson Co. They appear on Pickens Co., SC census records 1840 & 1850. I find Elizabeth signing over her dower rights 1-31-1858 in Pickens Co. On the 1860 Pickens Co. SC census, James' new wife is Nancy A. (last name unknown). On the 1870 Pickens Co., SC census, Nancy is gone and there is a Martha in the household. Unknown what the relationship to James is. Don't have local access to an 1880 census, so I haven't determined if he's still there or not. Children of James and Elizabeth were John (b. ca. 1835) nothing further after 1850 Pickens Co., SC census Frances / Fanny (b. ca. 1839) nothing further after the 1870 Anderson Co., SC census. Son J.F. Thompkins lived in Calhoun Co., AL and is buried in Rabbit Town Cem., Calhoun Co., AL Louisa (b. ca. 1840) nothing further after 1860 Laurens Co., SC census Henry (b. ca. 1843) nothing further after 1850 Pickens Co., SC census Isaac N. Posted on: Anderson County, SC Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/SC/Anderson/1845 Surname: Clark, Hall ------------------------- Jim, Thanks for responding. Actually, you sent me this in a list of descendants of William Clark, Sr. a few months ago. (I hope I thanked you!) Anyway, you didn't cite a source, but I assumed it was from the Clark/Towles info in a set of volumes on Virginia families that you had mentioned. When I get back to Virginia, I'll see if the Fredericksburg library has it. FYI, at least one person thinks the parents were John Clark and ? Williamson. That makes sense as "Williamson" sounds like a family name, but I haven't had a chance to check it out yet. I'm in GA at the moment and plan on going to UGA next week to see if I can find an obituary for Williamson (among others) in their collection of old county newspapers. Thanks again, Barry

"Micajah Adolphus Clark's Visit to South Carolina in 1857" begins on page 15 and runs for 16 pages. I agree, this is a marvelous document. I am descended from Matthew Clarke and his last wife Jane Butler though their daughter Mary Matilda Clarke b. 1841 when her father was 78 years old. She married Abram Bolt of Anderson County, SC. Her sister Martha Jane Clarke, b. 1837 married Abram's brother William A. Bolt
