Posted on: Anderson County, SC Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/SC/Anderson/1911 Surname: Robinson, Drake ------------------------- I am searching for the parents of Permelia Ann Robinson b. Aug 25, 1821 d. Sep 16, 1883. She was the wife of Enoch Harvey Drake. Both are buried at Union Grove Methodist Church in Anderson County, South Carolina. They had six children; Amarillus Palestine, James Franklin, Martha Eleanor, Robert Alonzo (my great grandfather), Texanna A., Ida May. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much. This could be Milly Kelleys mother and father. She was born in 1776. I probably need to look at the census record and see if Rebecca and William had a daughter in their home in 1790 that was sixteen. I have so much information on the Kelleys but don't know which one is mine. Nimrod Kelley who lived in Pendleton is more than likely Milly's brother as she named a child Nimrod. Thank you again. Dark Corners does border Abbeville County. It is in the lower left of Anderson County. The Savannah River is to the left. A. Deason Smith in SC Researching SMITH, KENNEDY, ELROD, DEASON, McGILL, LUSK, VAUGHN, HUGHES, MOORE, EVANS, RAY, COOPER, HUFFMAN, POSEY, ADAIR
I have to admit that I really know very little about genealogy but I am from Anderson county and was born in Iva. I was told that a local lawyer who is from Iva said it was called dark corners because of all the moonshining that went on in the area and when investigators (cops) went to check it out, they rarely came back. Also, Dark corners may possible border abbeville county since I think that Iva at some point borders the abbeville county line. My brother and I are not aware of a corners in Abbeville. I still have my grandmother and father in Iva. So if you have any questions, please let me know..by the way, I am a Kelley.

My great-great grandmother was born in Anderson county and married a man with the last name Hawkins. Hi, My birth certificate shows my birth place as Corner. I guess Dark Corner and Corner is the same location. They say Dark Corner is in Anderson County, but my birth certificate shows Corner, Abbeville County. I never heard of it until I started researching about 5 years ago. Can anyone add any new information? Pansy Latham Barfield
Lorraine; Thanks, it did. Jim McAlister
Dear Jim Dark Corner was indeed once the name of the Township in southeast corner of Anderson County starting in 1869.

Can someone tell me where the Dark Corners area of Anderson County is/was located? I grew up there, but until I began researching my ancestry, I had never heard the term. Thanks, Jim McAlister
Why isn't there an Anderson District for the 1860 SC census index? I saw there was an Abbeville, and there were four names for Anderson, because they were on some sort of residence list. Cindy Snyder
Dear SpecialK, I too am from Anderson. Major, McGregor, Liddell, Dean, Reeves, Sullivan, Patrick, Mattison, Wyatt, Swain, Maudlin, James and Watt. That pretty much makes me related to everyone sooner or later. But the one I want to find so much is Milly Kellys family. She married Pleasant Sullivan in 1796 in Greenville/Laurens. They moved to the edge of the Savannah River near Dooleys ferrys. What is your family Kelly back ground. Next I am looking for family of John Watt who was son of James and had Margaret jane Watt who married Kelly Sullivan.. Maybe someone in your family maybe able to give a clue. Thank you.
