A Permelia Gilmer (born c. 1817) married John Seigler (born c. 1796- died after 1880 in SC) probably in the late 1830s. Permelia's mother was named Martha Gilmer who died in 1874--a 12-year member of the Generostee ARP Church. She came from Abbeville County in the Long Cane settlement. The Seigler family lived in Dark Corners Township, Moffitsville Post Office, Anderson County, South Carolina, and was recorded in the census from 1850 to 1880. Martha Gilmer, who was living with the Seiglers in 1870, may have been the same Martha who, according to the 1850 census, was living with a George Washington Gilmer family (wife Juniah, children Elizabeth and an unnamed infant son) in Anderson County, near a William Harvey Gilmer family (wife Elizabeth, children: Martha I., Rebecca, Thomas, and an Ann Roberts), in 1850. Washington and Harvey were the correct ages to have been siblings of Permelia. George Washington Gilmer bought and sold the same piece of land on Richland Creek in Anderson County, and his wife, Juniah or Joriah, signed the dower release. He bought the land 9 Nov. 1852, and sold it on 11 Oct., 1855. He purchased it from Lemuel Buckhanon, and the purchase was witnessed by Kelley Sullivan and William H. Gilmer (probably William Harvey Gilmer). He sold the land to Archibald Simpson, and it was witnessed by J.M. Simpson and Kelly Sullivan. The land was part of a tract that was originally granted to John Colhoun, and when it was sold by G.W. Gilmer, it was bounded by lands of Jas. McConnell, Capt. L. Buchanan, Archibald Simpson, and others. It states that a plat had been made by James Gilmer D.S. on Feb. 28, 1838. After this transaction, the Gilmer men disappear. Any information about these Gilmer families would be greatly appreciated. Rebecca Akins
Posted on: Anderson County, SC Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/SC/Anderson/1967 Surname: Davis ------------------------- Thanks Peggy, I was at Neals Creek yesterday. Thats when I saw Jame H Kings Grave, it was near C P Davis. James was in household of William Levels Davis in 1850. That was before CP Davis was born, so the King Davis connection was before that. Are the Kings and Ducnans tied together somehow? William Levels fathers will doesn't have any Kings in it, W.L. had a Brother Charles R Davis that married a Nancy ? the Kings might have come from that side. Just wanted to tie him in somehow, if you figure it out please let me know. Thankyou again for responding. Do you need any other of C P Davises family info? Regards Chuck Davis
