    3. HI, Could you tell me the names of Newton and Harriet's parents? Thank you very much! Anna -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, April 15, 2003 12:58 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [SCAnderson] Newton Brown Hi, Newton Brown's sister Harriet married Sanford Vandiver Vaughan. I'm researching the Vaughans. "Van" and his brother Avery Vaughan died of typhoid fever about a week apart in a hospital in Richmond, VA. Van, Avery, and Newton Brown are buried in the Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, VA. There are over 18,000 Confederate soldiers buried there. I've been to all three graves that have headstones which their families erected; the other graves just have white markers with a number and you have to go to the office to find out whose grave it is. I went on Memorial Day weekend and there were Confederate flags everywhere. The cemetery is very impressive. J.E.B. Stuart and his family are buried here; Jefferson Davis, President of the Confederacy and family are here; President James Monroe, and, Gen. George Pickett. I copied the headstones of all three of the above and can't find the data right now. 1. [SCAnderson] Upper South Carolina Whitt Information
    2. ewhunt
    3. Some weeks ago I paid to have a male family member participate in the family DNA testing. I needed to prove which line of Whit/Whitt the upper South Carolina Whitts descended from. I had hit a brick wall when trying to locate the connection between John Whitt of 1810 with anyone from Virginia. Today I received the following message from David Whitt who is the person in charge of the Whit/Whitt DNA work. "I just received an email from Family Tree DNA informing me of your DNA test results. Congratulations, your 12-Marker test identifies you as a descendant of the emigrant, John Witt-Whitt." What this means is I have now established a link back to the original Witt line and eliminated the German and French lines of Witt/Whitts. For those of you who descend from John Whitt or David R. Whitt you can now turn your attention to finding the link back to the children of John Witt/ Nancy Daux; John Witt II, William Witt, Edward Whitt or Richard Whitt, Sr. Technology is becoming a wonderful tool when brick walls pop up! More information on DNA testing can be found on http://www.familytreedna.com. Elaine Hunt

    3. Cindy, Please see if there is any mention of Salina (Morris) WRIGHT. She was b. ca.1820 and I have records up to (& including) the 1880 census. I have not found her on the 1900 census (any Co. in SC). An undated piece of paper torn from a probable 1898 calendar and used for the final settlement account of the estate of her father Samuel Morris, has Salina Wright dead. I had always beleived that Ester was buried in the County Poor House cemetery with an unmarked grave but I have been wrong: The Anderson Intelligencer issue May 29 1884 Ester Massey, widow of Laban Massey, died in the County Poor House last Friday night, age 92. She has been an inmate for 3 years during which time she was an invalid. She was born and raised in the county. Member of Baptist church for 50 years, and was interred at Barker's Creek Church last Sunday, 23 May 1884 and buried the 25th. My apologies to all those who have heard this before, and to those of you on the multiple list I am posting to and for the length of the posting. My brick wall Joe Kelley. I have found 2 newspaper articles on the shooting, but nothing about when Poore went to trial. I would love to know more. I need help and direction to find out more!!!! The fire at the Williamson courthouse supposedly destroyed all records. If you can direct me or have any information that might help me I would greatly appreciate your being in touch.
