    1. [SCAnderson] Nettie Eudora Freeman, 1880 Census of Dark Corner, Anderson Co., SC
    2. Ken Spangler
    3. Hi everyone, I am attempting to get started on my great-grandmother's roots and I am searching for any help I could get. My ggrandmother was called Nettie Eudora Freeman (married Emmit Stevenson, unsure when!) and I know her father is Robert Oliver Freeman. I found a census record of what I suspect is her family in the 1880 census of Dark Corner, Anderson Co., South Carolina and it shows her as being Gennett U. Freeman (perhaps the census taker thought Eudora was spelled with a "U"). I am looking for anyone who might have any information regarding Nettie or her family. What I have is simply what my 80 year old Aunt has been able to tell me (what you read) and a picture of her tombstone in Jefferson, Texas. According to the tombstone she was born Mar. 4, 1866 and she died July 14, 1946. Sorry to be so long-winded and so short of info. Just trying to find a place to hop on here! Thanks in advance for any replies, Ken Spangler Rookie Genealogist [email protected] Check out my Forbes genealogy at http://www.geocities.com/kenopoly

Spencer was the son of Nicholas Brown, wife unk; b. c1815 Pendleton, Anderson Co., SC, d. 26 Mch 1885 Seneca, Oconee Co., SC Katie was b. c1820 SC, d. 18 Nov 1897 Seneca, Oconee Co., SC. I also have a record showing that Spencer was b. c1820 GA, possibly Franklin Co. I really don't have a great deal on the Brown Family as I'm researching the Vaugh(a)n Family. 1. RE: [SCAnderson] researching Cherokee lines in South Carolina
    2. Sloan Crayton
    3. Hi, The best on-line resource I've found is Barbara Benge's site in connection with Jerry Blankenship - Cherokee by Blood. If you go to the Tennesse Genweb site you can find the link or try searching "Cherokee By Blood". Like most of us whose ancestors were mixed blood in the 18th and 19th centuries - the only hope is finding relatives who were listed on the rolls or admitted later. There is a series of transcriptions in many of the major libraries called "Cherokee By Blood" of pension applications. The last time I checked the author had issued 7 volumes - there may be more now. Great resource. If you don't have time to go the archives and search yourself - try checking out these volumes in the Greenville, SC, Charlotte, NC and Columbia, SC libraries. There's even some in the Seattle, WA library! Good luck in your search!
