No census images for this census year are available on Ancestry.com, Census Online, or the Anderson County page at USGenWeb Project. I found seven John Orr's on the Ancestry.com's 1850 census results page. Two were listed as John L. Orr. Specifically, I want to know whether any one of these men listed had a wife named Emily (may have been spelled Emly or some other variation). Thank you in advance for your help. Karen Trull Jordan

I stumbled onto the 1860 census info and found this Griffin family-just up the road a piece from my great-grandfather who was a college student. I am hoping that I finally found the parents of my Martha Griffin. I tracked this family from Anderson Co., SC, to Murray Co. GA, and then to Cherokee Co., NC. My Grandfather was born in Abbeville County, SC in 1867 and appears with his parents in the 1870 census there. The next record I found was his marriage to my Grandmother in 1898 in Polk Co., TN. (Polk Co., TN and Cherokee Co., NC share a common state boundry.) If these are his mother's family it would explain how/why he ended up in Polk Co. TN. Here are the extracts from the census records I found 1860 Census, Town of Williamston - Mineral Springs - Anderson Co., SC M653-1212-180 All born SC J.C. Griffin – age 44 Frances E. Hello, I am seeking someone who might be willing to take a photo of a tombstone for me. I sought to do this via RAOGK, but there is no volunteer for Anderson County. What I am looking for is Jas L. FREEMAN, who is buried in Big Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. He was born 11-9-1872 and died 10-20-1889. He is the son of R. O. and M. M. FREEMAN. Just a digital photo that could be emailed would be acceptable. I live in Dallas and this would be very much appreciated. Sincerely, Ken Spangler Dallas, Texas

Tonight I was reading “Traditions and History of Anderson County”, by Louise Ayer Vandiver. Anyways I will type out this section.. "Chapter 3 - Some of the Pioneer People and Their Social Life, .... Manning Poole owned a large tract of land which included the sites of Miss Varina Brown's residence, .... (continues with Poole's lands) Chapter VI - Colonel Joseph Newton Brown..... his daughter, Miss Varina Brown, has written a biography of her father...."(book on his accounts in battles, Gettysburg and Spottsylvania, etc.) Chapter IX states she was a teacher at Anderson Female College. Also on several pages over it talks more of her father, Colonel Brown, "...has left the greater part of his property to be used for missionary work after the death of his only child, Miss Varina D. Brown." This may and maynot be her, be really cool if it is. No actual dates are mentioned in this history but it may make sense to someone else. If this was her then it was noted that her father was a very respected man in Anderson County. He read that J.N. Brown was to become the wealthiest citizen in Anderson. Wendy Campbell
