Mrs. Hattie Walker HONFA PATH Mrs. Hattie Morris Walker. 80, dlied at her home at 108 Georgia St. last night. She had been ill two weeks. She was a native of Anderson County and a daughter of the late H. M. and Ida Blackmon Morris. Her husband, W. E. Walker, died in 1937. She was a member of Chiquola Baptist Church. Survivors include six sons, C. M. Walker, F. A. Walker, and W. F. Walker, all of Honoa Path; the Rev. H. 0. Walker, Walhalla: the Rev. J. H. Walker, Piedmont, and the Rev. J. F. Walker. Lancaster; five daughters, Mrs. Edna Smith, Mrs. Vermelle Thompson, Miss Helen Walker all of Honea Path: Mrs. F. W. Malone.Greenwood, and Mrs. Ruth Gainbrell of Laurens: one sister, Mrs. Jennie Buchanan, Greer; 32 grandchildren, and .36 great grandchildren. Funeral services will he held Friday at 5 p.m. in Chiquola Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Ken Joner and Norton Craig. Burial will be in Eastview Cemetery Active pallbearers are Joe Myers Jr., Robert McCoy, Fied Knox, T. B. Kerr, Thomas Jones and Alvin Culberson. Ellis, granddaughter of Mrs. W. T. Turner and S. M. Ellis. Pvt. R. C. King 32nd Anderson Casualty (1944) Pvt. R. C. King Killed is killed in action Pvt. Robert Calhoun King, 20 was killed in action against the Germans in Italy on January 8, according to a telegram received by his parents, Mr. And Mrs. Julius King 316 East Benson Street, from the War Department. Pvt. King, who had been in the Army nine months, was with General Mark Clark's Fifth Army. He had been overseas four months after undergoing infantry training at Camp Wheeler, GA. In his last letter home dated January 3, he informed his parents that he had never been in battle, but expected to go shortly. In addition to his parents, Pvt. King is survived by his wife, the former Miss Frances Whitfield, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Whitfield of Townville. Two brothers are also in service: Pharmacist Mate Worley M. King, U. S. Navy, who has been in the Navy four years was wounded in Guadalcanal. Seaman Second Class William King is also in the Navy, having enlisted five months ago. He is stationed at Norfolk, VA

CAPTAIN McBrearty Pelzer Officer Crash Victim PELZER July 24 Word was received here day of the death of Capt. John Dendy McBrearty, 29, Army Air Forces Flight surgeon in a plane crash near Albany, N. Y. Captain McBrearty was a native of Pelzer and had practiced medicine for two and a half years at Williamston prior to entering the service. Captain McBrearty it was reported was on a routine training flight with other Army airmen, enroute to Canada when the ship encountered difficulties in a storm and crashed. Mrs. Agnes Dendy McBrearty, the flier's mother, and her brother, Dr. William Steele Dendy left yesterday for New York. Funeral arrangements will be announced later. Captain McBrearty is survived by his wife, Mrs. Sarah Hepburn McBrearty. originally of Florence; his mother, and a sister, Mrs. Sarah McBrearty Ross of Pelzer; grandparents. Mrs. W. R. Dendy and Mr. and Mrs. Jim McBrearty. Captain McBrearty was graduated from Pelzer High school, and took a p re-medical course at Clemson College. He was graduated from the Medical College of South Carolina in 1936. He was for a time an intern at the General hospital in Greenville. He was a member of the Greenville County Medical society and the Lions club at Williamston. CPL BERT G POWELL Cpl Bert G Powell. 19-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Powell. of 2 G Street. Anderson Mill. died in New Guinea on April 21. of wounds received in action in New Guinea on April 15 according to telegram received from the War Department this morning. Cpl Powell who entered service at the age of 15 had been overseas since October 1942. Earlier he had completed a course of traimng at Hot Springs Arkansaw. He then transferred to the parachutists, finiishing training at For Benning, GA. His family had received a certificate from the commanding officer of 503rd Parachute Iimfamrtry stating that he had participated in a parachute attack against the Japanese Garrison at Lae. New Guinea, on September 5. 1943. In addition to his parents, Cpl. Powell is survived by three brothers, Ralph and William Powell, both of Greenville, and Maxwell Powell of the United States Army stationed at Camp Blanding. I found a photo of about 30-40 children mostly black children. There looks like there may be two white boys in the photo. The back of the photo says "Willie Heard Jr Class of 1925" At the top of the photo in very faint writing are the letters E S F School. Is this a school in Anderson county?
