BTW, I talked a couple of years ago to a man descended from these EDMONDS from Stephens Co., GA but I don't have his email address now. He had MUCH information on them. He lives in Myrtle Beach, SC now. If you go the GENFORUM site www.genforum.com and then to the EDMONDS surname board - I bet you could find him. I believe his name is Jimmy Edmonds. Donna Aiken
Hello David and Debbies, I was happy to see some action on the Anderson County Pattersons. I have tried for years to find the family of my great great grandmother, Permelia Patterson. She married Paul Gillispie and was living in Anderson County in 1880. The census shows her as "Amelia", and at that time (1880) my great grandfather was less than a year old. It states that Amelia was age 20 and Paul age 50. An old family bible states that Permelia had brothers Wade, George, and John and a sister whose name starts with "M". The only Permelia (or Amelia) I have found so far who would have been about age 10 in the 1870 census is in a family in Tennessee, and those sibling names don't match. I note that Wade Hampton Patterson had a son O.C. Amelia named one of her sons O.C. I also note that Wade had a son J.D. Well, a J.D. Patterson signed on my grandmother's marriage application. I can find so many similarities but nothing concrete. I also note that Wade had a daughter Amanda who married a Gillespie, but I don't think the age would be right for my Amelia. Any thoughts on any of this? Sheila Phillips
I research many lines in Anderson Co. but my Patterson line comes from Madison County, Georgia back to Union County, Georgia. But I do believe that back in the early 1800's they came through South Carolina. Any way this is to explain why I always copy any PATTERSON obit that I see. And happen to have these. BTW, I am also researching EDMONDS (from Winnie's obit) . . . but I don't believe I've connected to the EDMONDS that was in Toccoa in these years. My EDMONDS line came from NC to Towns Co. then Rabun Co. then Madison Co., GA Anderson Independent, Tuesday, Sep 19, 1967 L. T. Patterson L. T. Hi Debbie, This is Debbie Hayes Patterson. I married Gary Marvin Patterson in 1975. He was born in 1957 in Anderson,S.C. I was born in 1955 in Anderson. His Dad is MARVIN L.PATTERSON bn. in 1927. His dad was a twin named: L.T. PATTERSON. The twin's name was J.B. PATTERSON. That is all I know about the Patterson side. I have questioned his dad on several occasions and all I can get out of him is that his grandfather came from Toccoa, Ga. So, I thought it very coincidental that your researcher lives in Toccoa. I am researching my side of the family simply because of time and waiting to get more info. from his dad or an aunt I may be able to talk to who may know more. If you think, or anyone else on the list has any information concerning this, I would appreciate any and all information. I do know that Gary, my husband, his grandmother Patterson was a MILLS. So L.T. married a MILLS who was also from Ga., but not sure if Toccoa. It would have had to have been close by. Her name was Winnie Lou Mills. She was born circa 1909. Thanks, Debbie Patterson [email protected] ----- Original Message ----- From: "Debbie Kellogg" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, September 27, 2003 12:52 PM Subject: Re: [SCAnderson] Re: Pattersons in Anderson Co. Hi David, I have hired a researcher for my PATTERSON's in Anderson County SC, she lives in Toccoa GA and is fantastic at researching and remembering names and connecting them. She has helped my out so much with all that she has found on my Patterson line. I believe it was last month she was searching grave yards and looking at birth and death certificates and came across a John Patterson, son of a Wade Patterson and a "Simpson". Here I will copy part of her letter to me here so you can read what she says: I was able to get two more death certificates for you. One was for John Patterson, husband of Genie Marshall Patterson. We only had a year of death from the tombstone, but I found him in the SC Death Index, which said that he died Sept. 21, 1940, Oconee Co. - Certificate # 14725. On the death certificate, John Patterson's birthdate was not known, but he was about 49 years old. (That agrees with the tombstone, which says 1891-1940.) His wife is listed as Mrs. Genie Patterson. He was the son of Wade Patterson and his mother's maiden name was Simpson. Her first name was not given. Do you know of a Wade Patterson? He may be from an entirely different line, but you never know. The above Genie Marshall Patterson is the daughter of my gggg-grandfather Andrew Jackson Patterson and Sarah Wood Patterson daughter: her name is Carrie C Patterson. I can give you the rest of the info I have for this family... I do have a copy of the newspaper obit for both John and Genie. I'm wondering if John is somehow related to my Patterson line. I get myself confused when I try to do genealogy, if this sounds completely crazy, let me know. If I'm remembering this right, Bunnie, my researcher found John and Genie buried close to Carrie Patterson Marshall in a cemetery in Anderson or Oconee, SC. I fill get the data out and look over it and if this sounds like a possibility of the same family then I will scan what I have and send it off to you. I also wondering about your Wood family, could they belong to the same Wood family as my Sarah Wood?? So many questions, but this is so fun! Let me know what you think.
