    1. Frances Kelley/Kelly - 1824-1905 dau. of Daniel Calloway Kelley - South Carolina
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/hcB.2ACE/2578 Message Board Post: Hello, I am working on my deceased husband's family from South Carolina. I am looking to find information to confirm the children of Frances Kelley and their spouses. My information and research has Frances Kelley as a daughter of Daniel Calloway Kelley and Sarah Black. They lived in the Anderson area and married into several families there. I show her the mother of six (6) children: of which a John Richardson is reported to be the father of them all; just that he and Frances never married. She appears on Census records from 1850 through 1880 always head of the house with children and new children each census record and all retaining the surname of Kelley. Children were: 1) Sarah Ann b. about 1842 m? Jesse Langley?? 2) Benjamin Perry b. 2 Aug 1850 d. 23 Sep. 1932* my relation m. Matilda Caroline Sheriff. 3) John Kelley b. about 1854 - no further information. 4) Nancy Kelley b. 1857 d. 1906 m. Benjamin Durham Bryant 5) Mary Kelley b. about 1859 - no further information 6) George A. Kelley b. about 1865 - no further information. I have several contacts for this family and one question confuses me. That the oldest daughter Sarah married a Jesse Langley. When other information tells me that the widowed mother of #2's spouse married a Jesse Langley. So, if Ben's sister Sarah Kelley really married Jesse Langley, where are they and their family?? I have been to the grave of Benjamin Perry Kelley and his wife Matilda Caroline Sheriff Kelley in Six Mile Baptist Church. There in the family plot they are buried together and also in the family plot is a James Kelley, their son b. 1876 d. 1884. Then a Sarah, wife of Jesse Langley 1842-1912. Is this Sarah, Benjamin's sister Sarah Kelley who married Jesse Langley or Sarah Gambrell Sheriff, widow of John Sheriff and mother-in-law of Ben P. Kelley?? It seems tangled, but maybe someone out there knows the answer. I was new at learning cemetery research back in 1979 when I went there and saw their graves, and did not know all the family members. With the computer age I have found a child of Jesse Langley and a Sarah who fits to be the widow of John Sheriff and this child went by the name William Sheriff and Harrison Sheriff. CENSUS: 1880 Anderson Co., SC. Jesse Langley age 49 and wife Sarah age 41. Son Harrison Langley age 10. CENSUS: 1900 Pickens Co., SC - Sarah Langley age 68, living in the Rempy household, her daughter, Nannie and husband and son Dennis age 1, born July 1899. Married for 2 years, one child and one child living. Sarah's birth date says Sept 1831, which is about 10 years off. Harrison Sheriff m. Rosa Lee Rochester. Harrison died in 1915. I have used many listings from the 'OLD PENDLETON DATABASE,' which has given me much insight on these families. Corrections and additions appreciated. Share my information with you. Thank you. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/hcB.2ACE/2574 Message Board Post: There are several locations given for this burial place that are misleading. The cemetery is NOT located at Carmel Presbyterian Church, Cedar Rock Church or Lighthouse Baptist Church. The directions printed in various Anderson County cemetery survey books are no longer accurate. Pickens Chapel, no currently abandoned, used to be the location of Richmond, Six & Twenty and Carmel Church - all names at different points in time for Carmel Presbyterian Church. Later, it served other churches, such as Lighthouse Baptist Church. The cemetery is located just across the Anderson County Line: drive out of Easley on SC8 on the road to Pelzer; once you enter Anderson County, turn right on Three and Twenty Mile Road (S-485); drive until you see a historical market to the cemetery on the left. Without a sensitive odometer, we estimate the distance at about 3 to 4 miles from the historical marker at Pickensville (inside Easley on SC 8). Once you turn on Three and Twenty Mile Road, it is about 2 to 3 miles to the cemetery marker. Coming from Pelzer, take SC 8 to junction of SC 81 and SC 88. Take SC 88 west. From SC 88, the road to the cemetery is marked as SSR 485; it is NOT so marked coming from Easley! Slabtown no longer exists on any maps, online or printed. The only map we found of use is the DeLorme map of South Carolina, page 23, where the unpaved road is shown in grey. The road to the abandoned chapel is closed off; you have to park just off the highway. The cemetery is located about 100 yards back from the rear of the chapel. Follow an abandoned road/path to the cemetery. The cemetery is badly overgrown. Wear closed-in shoes because the ground is covered with various species of ants (all of whom bite) and poison ivy. I have pictures of the cemetery marker and overgrown cemetery. I've already posted pictures of all the tombstones of Revolutionary War soldiers on their respective surname boards. My thanks go out to the DAR chapter who replaced the original markers with the stones, probably sometime in the 1960s. Otherwise these locations would be totally lost.

I'm not near my records right now but on the surface - I think you found a key that I thought I'd never find. Now if I could just find some of his descendants still living ..... oh to only hope. Carson (31) is living with his wife Mandy (35) and their children: Jack (14), Henry (12), Bur___(I believe this is a Burdell - female) (8), Harrison (6), Lillian (4) and Pearle Mae (1). The Carson I am looking for had one arm and according to my information married Amanda Richardson in October 21, 1908. Now, I also believe that Carson Mathes in the 1910 Census for Fork Twp, Anderson, SC is the same person. Carson (22) is living with wife Amand (31) - this is what the census said "Amand". with their children: Sherma C. (6), Robert B. (4), Henry O. (9 mos) and a person name Andrew (72) noted as Father. Notes my Mother made years ago during a conversation with a cousin (now deceased) mentioned the following children: Lillian, Burdell, Hoss Harrison, and Henry. So I really believe I am on the right track here. Please ... any help with this family would be greatly appreciated. Gail
