    3. TO: Charles Parkman and List Members: I am cross posting to the Aiken, Edgefield, and Barnwell County, South Carolina, lists in response to the posting made to the Aiken list as seen below. These families migrated across these three counties. The people in the posting tie into my Whitlock line. All of the connections are before 1860 and are taken from the estate records of Elizabeth Whitlock in 1860 in Edgefield District, South Carolina. Winfrey Whitlock d. 1839 with a will made in 1833 in Edgefield District, South Carolina. The will did not tell a lot about the family, but his widoow's estate records were a reall "gold mine" in 1860. I am no really sure what happened to the land during the Civil War, but all the heirs are mentioned down to the married grandchildren, heirs to the deceased children. `There were ten children mentioned including who the daughters married. Five children were deceased. One of these was Mariah Whitlock b. c. 1813 d. before 1860 married William Walker. I think there were about seven children mentioned. One daughter, Mariah Walker, had married "Wane" Leopard before 1860. The youngest that Mariah Walker Leopard could have been was about 15 when she married. So substracting 15 from 1860 gives a birth date not later than c. 1845. I do not have any census or dates typed into my genealogy program on these people only the names from the estate records. However, if Mariah Whitlock was born c. 1813, her children were probably born somewhere around 1830-1850. Definitely before 1860. Elizabeth Booth Whitlock b. c. 1772 Virginia d. 1860 was the daughter of James Booth, Sr. d. c. 1823 in Edgefield District, South Carolina. These Whitlocks lived south of Trenton along what is now Hwy 25, the old plank road. There is a Whitlock Cemetery there and they, especially Elizabeth Booth Whitliock, were members of Horn's Creek Baptist Church. I have the Booths traced back to St. Stephens Parish, Northumberland County, Virginia, before 1681. I would very much appreciate any additional information Charles Parkman has on this branch of the Whitlock family. My Whitlock line comes from James, Sr., brother of Mariah Whitlock Walker, who was also deceased by 1860.
