The following was a document I found in the newly discovered Loose papers, Edgefield SC. while visiting the Edgefield Archives last week. I photo copied the page, and just transcribed it. Evidently one Sarah Coursey is appointed the guardian of Jacob Pressley and other family members are posting the bond. --------------------------------------------------- March 22, 1802 Edgefield Dist SC: Know all men by these prents (sic) that We Sarah Coursey, John Coursey & Robert Brooks are holden and firmly bound unto John Draton, Governor and Commander in chief and ordinary of this state in the full and first sum of Three Hundred dollars lawful money of the said state to be paid to the said Governor &ordinary to their successors and ordinarys of the said state to which payment well and truly to be made and done we herby bind ourselves jointly and severally our several heirs Executors and administrators in the whole and for the whole firmly by these presents Sealed with our seals and dated the 22nd day of March, anno domini 1802 and in the 26th year of American Independence. The condition of this obligation is such that if the above bounded Sarah Coursey do and shall carefully and handsomely bring up Jacob Presley, minor, during his minority and (nonage) with necessary meat, drink, washing, lodging, apparel, and learning according to his degree and shall during the time the said Sarah Coursey shall be guardian and tutor unto the said Jacob Presley, defend him from hurt of body, loss of goods and lands so far as in her power (____) and such fall due unto the said Jacob Presley of the good and Chattels of any person whatsoever according to the Inventory thereof or by any ways whatsoever shall deliver and pay unto the said Jacob Presley when he shall come to age to receive the same by law and if it happen that the said Jacob Presley shall die before that time then if the said Sarah Coursey do continue and pay the portion and other rights of the said Jacob Presley to whom the law shall appoint the said to be paid or who by proximity of blood ought to have it and shall render a true and ____ account upon the (tuition) granted when there unto required and also keep harmless the above named Governor and ordinary and all other officers and ministers and of none effect or (Else) to remain and be in full force and virtue.
