    3. Hi Ken, I visited the Aiken area a couple of years ago and Augusta, GA is just across the river from Aiken, about 15 miles. It looks like the nearest large town. Aiken is a good size, but Augusta would be bigger. It looks like Augusta was where everyone went for certain things. I have an 1806 notice about an Aiken ancestor that was published in the Augusta paper. It even looks like mail may have been delivered in those very early days to the post office in Augusta for pick up by people living in the Aiken area.
