In the articles about the crime she is listed as Lena Foster. But a few years later during some racial tensions in the area, Dr. H. A Shaw recounted the murder using her name, Eliza Foster. She was murdered in her home on 19 March 1875. Her husband and son were in the field working and the father sent the son to the house to get him a drink. The young son found his mother dead on the floor and the smallest child sitting by her body. She was struck in the head with an axe and her cloths set afire. The two suspects supposedly "escaped" while being taken to the court house but is sure reads like a vigilante effort to make them disappear forever, which appatently they did. I can send you the PDF pages or I can cut and paste the articles into a word document and send that to you either via email or in the Post. Was her father James Floyd? If so, do you have any research on this family you can share? I am working on the Floyd's of Edgefield county. Liz
