    1. COLEMAN/CARPENTER/UNKNOWN/TIMMERMAN
    2. Vivian Toole
    3. Dear List Members, I am cross posting because of the county formation like a lot of other people who research in the Edgefield/Akien/Barnwell area. I am seeking the maiden name of Nancy _?_ Carpenter Coleman which has not shown up in my past 38 years of research. As most of you know marriages are hard to prove in this area without marriage records. Her census records are below for 1850, 1860, 1870, and 1880. She first married Isham Carpenter, the son of Adam Carpenter and Milly/Matilda probably Sheffield. They migrated from Cumberland/Moore County, North Carolina, c. 1803. By the 1850 census Isham Carpenter had d.c. 1845-6 and she had remarried to Frances Marion Coleman. They were probably living on Adam Carpnter's 333 acres below Trenton off Hwy 25, the old Plank Road. They had two sons, John and Owen. John died young according to courthouse records, 1850-1860. She had several children by her Coleman marriage. F. M. Coleman was deceased between c. 1864-1870. Whether he served and/or died in the Civil War has not been researched as I am a descendent of William Carpenter who married Sarah _?_ who was Isham's brother and another son of Adam and Matilda Carpenter. It appears from the census, some of which is hard to read, that F. M Coleman had a mother named Margaret Coleman and a brother Benjamin and a sister Parmelia Coleman. Can anyone identify this family? Perhaps this group of women with whom Nancy Coleman and her three daughters were living together in the 1870 census has some hidden clues that I do not recognize. Does any TIMMERMAN researcher recognize these people in the 1870 census? Who is the Effy Carpenter living with her in 1880 age 10? A daughter of her surviving son, Owen Carpenter? In the QUILL of March/April 2005 published by the Old Edgefield District Genealogical Society in the New Members list is a Coleman researcher, a Grant S. Sumner of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma with the email address cowdaddy@sbcglobal.net Thanks in advance for any assistance. 1. Correction - Aug. Chron. Obit., Mon., 15 Dec 1941 obit of Mrs. R. A. Couch Bodie
    2. Lee and Billie Jones
    3. I posted this death cert. and the obit along with it earlier. Several folks pointed out that the brothers listed in Mrs. Bessie Couch Bodies obits are called Bodies in the obit. I checked with the person who got the original from the Augusta Chronicle, in case it was MY type, but it is typed correctly from the newspaper. Evidently the Newspaper made the error. However, the initials of the Bodie brothers match up with the Couch boys in the family in the census records posted below the obit.... 1941 - Death Cert. #18709, Aiken Co, SC Mrs. Bessie C. 1. Obit of Willie Ruth Griffith Smith Burnett.
    2. Lee and Billie Jones
    3. The following obit was published Feb. 2, 2005, "The State", Columbia SC. I found it in a stack of papers and don't think I posted it. I am interested in the parents and Burnett connections of her second husband Fred T. Burnett. But.... I am not familiar with the Batesburg-Leesville area funeral homes, which could indicate to me if this Burnett was white or Black. I am working on the White Burnetts with marriages into my Holloway, and Rauton lines. I have accumulated a lot, but altho I have two Fred S. Burnetts, I don't have a Fred T. nor a marriage to Willie Ruth Griffith Smith. Feb. 2, 2005, "The State", Columbia SC Batesburg-Leesville -- Willie Ruth Burnett, 85, of Batesburg-Leesville died Monday, Jan 31, 2005. 1. Obit of Robert Lybrand, Sr d. 3/29/2005
    2. Lee and Billie Jones
    3. I don't know that this Lybrand connects to the Lybrand's of Old Edgefield Dist, but the use of the name Lott in his father's name leads me to believe he is connected to OED families. I am not familiar with the Thompson Funeral home to know the probable race of Mr. Lybrand, but recognize the King, Lott, Lybrand, names as familier OED names. He names a g-grandson as Robert Lake Lybrand. I have seen the name in older records, and have a Robert L. Lybrand born Abt. 1872 in my files which might indicate he connects to that line of Lybrands in some way. I do not work on the Lybrands and only have a few in my files from other sources. Just typing this up and passing it on to see if it helps others. The State, Tuesday, March 29, 2005 Cayce -- Services for Robert C. Lybrand, Sr. 81 of Cayce, will be held at 4 pm Wednesday, March 30, 2005 in Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church, officiated by Mr. Art Wuertz (sic). Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Eddie King, Johnny Fezio, Dargan Lybrand, Phillip O'Neal, Frank Williams and Ben Hager. Honorary pallbearers will be Lake Lybrand, Craig Spires and Ronnie Burbank. The family will received friends from 7 - 9 pm Tuesday at Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia. Memorials may be made to Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church, 1000 B Avenue, West Columbia, SC 29169. Mr. Lybrand, widower of Ruby Mae Watts Lybrand, died Monday, March 28, 2005. Born in West Columbia, he was a son of the late Hampton Lott and Pauline Cherry Lybrand. A lifetime resident, Mr. Lybrand was a member of Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church. He was retired as a plant operator from National Welder's Supply Co. Mr Lybrand served in the U. S. Army during WWII, having stormed the beaches of Normandy. He especially loved fishing and speing time with his family. Surviving are his daughter, Bonnie King of West Columbia; son and daughter-in-law Robert 'Bobby' C. Lybrand, Jr. and Lisa; grandchildren, Robert Dargan Lybrand and his wife Kim of Columbia, Deanna Michelle Lybrand of Tampa FL, Charles Eddie King of West Columbia; g-grandchildren Robert Lake and Robert Rein Lybrand. Mr. Lybrand was predeceased by a grandson kevin David King, two brothers and four sisters. www.thompsonfuneral.com
