I haven't yet called the funeral home you mentioned. I looked at the obituaries and for J.E. Bodie it says it was "Baughman Funeral Home." For M. Axson Bodie it just says she was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wagener and that there would be a viewing at the church. There was no funeral home given. I guess I'll try to discover if there is still a Baughman Funeral Home. I will also call the one you recommended. Thanks again, Sherry

Dear List Members, If you are not interested in this message just hit the delete button. However, I have noticed that there are quite a few people on the lists to which I belong who are in East Texas, researching East Texas Families, or who might be traveling this way. Please pass this information along to anyone who might be interested. I am a reguar member of this list and a member of the Angelina County Genealogical Society. Please help us get out the word about our special speaker for our Monday night August 15, 2005, meeting. The society has delayed the program 1 hour from our regular meeting time to give out-of-town people that have day jobs a little more time to get there. The Angelina Society actively supports the Ora McMullen Room and the John Wilkins Collection for Genealogy Research. Check it and us out if you are traveling our way or have an interest in our area. There are several people who work in the genealogy room who volunteer on a regular basis besides the paid public library staff. They are available to help with a limited amount of research. 1-936-630-0560. Ask for the Ora McMullen Room. They can point you in the right direction for your research. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/ZcB.2ACE/364.3 Message Board Post: Richard, I did find the particulars of this crime in the Augusta Paper. In the articles about the crime she is listed as Lena Foster. But a few years later during some racial tensions in the area, Dr. H. A Shaw recounted the murder using her name, Eliza Foster. She was murdered in her home on 19 March 1875. Her husband and son were in the field working and the father sent the son to the house to get him a drink. The young son found his mother dead on the floor and the smallest child sitting by her body. She was struck in the head with an axe and her cloths set afire. The two suspects supposedly "escaped" while being taken to the court house but is sure reads like a vigilante effort to make them disappear forever, which appatently they did. I can send you the PDF pages or I can cut and paste the articles into a word document and send that to you either via email or in the Post. Was her father James Floyd? If so, do you have any research on this family you can share? I am working on the Floyd's of Edgefield county. Liz
