    3. I'm reposting this because it has not appeared in the digest yet: Each of the 1870 through 1930 censuses lists the following towns or townships for Abbeville County: Abbeville, Cedar Springs, Diamond Hill, Donalds, Due West, Long Cane, Lowndesville, Magnolia and Smithville. I can find Abbeville, Cedar Springs, Donalds, Due West, and Lowndesville on a modern map. Does anyone know the general boundaries of Diamond Hill Township, Long Cane Township, Magnolia Township or Smithville Township in Abbeville County? The UGIS service locates Long Cane (historical) at latitude 34-08-54N and longitude 82-19-57W which looks like it is about 5 miles southeast of downtown Abbeville near where Norris Creek runs into Long Cane Creek. This is close to where the town is located on the SCIway county map online (http://www.sciway.net/maps/cnty/abbeville.html). Is this where Long Cane Township would be? Bob Thompson
