I am being educated in a hurry re/ regulators and proceedings prior to the war. It appears many injustices were inflicted upon the REGULATORS by the CROWN. And I suspect in other battles later on. I am an American and and am grateful for this land of AMERICA . I am trying to find my ROOTS.What I have found surprised me. My BAIRDS were LOYALISTS with allegience to the crown. THey had settled in Va. City, Jamestown JOHN BAIRD, Md margaret Rookings, moved to Chippokes Creek in Surry Co. He was a Miller and a millwright(as was my trade)he and his descendants built and operated mills and owned thousands of acres of ground in Va. and North carolina. He was a vestryman for the parish of martins Brandon and held in high esteem by members of his parish. he moved to Prince George co. and was given 521 acres of land that reverted to the crown because they died seized.so the king and the governor helped them in many ways. He was also made justice of the peace for Prince george county. He d. there abt. 1738.HIS SON ROOKowned land at Cabin point mill. His son Benjamin ,called MAJOR BENJAMIN,bn. abt. 1720Prince george co .Va.md sarah batte Jones, a widow, he then moved to Lunenburg, co. Va,Then Mecllen burg Co. was organized and he was commissioned justice of the peace and coroner.THEN guess where he moved ANSON CO NC.Again he built Mills,Lumber ,grist and saw mills.and bought thousands of acres of land.I am glad ,however that he and his families, didn't move there until after the BATTLE OF ALAMANCE.IN 1772-4.M ontgomery co. was then formed and Benjamin was the entry taker.Benjamin had a good number of children three of whom were Sarah, John batte and Alexander,Alexander and Johnn Batte md. Jennings sisters. Now: in this regardsomeone told me to read the book :from albions seed by David hackett Fischer"I read where a large group of immigrants came EARLY to the Jamestown area in Va. Those that came were from the so. west part of england dominated by the Estates of GENTRY. AND CAME TO James city co,Prince george co.etc.It also said that of 101 gentry families that came to America was the Batte and Jennings Families.who the BAIRD family married and that they represented the Rural gentry of england. Then I read in 'THE history of ANSON COUNTY NC 1750 -1976 by Mary L. Medley" in a list of the LOYALIST major James Cottons Accts. 1776.The names of Benjamin Baird,John batte Baird and Alexander baird. Then hard times appeared to fall on them and Benjamin and his familes went to Tenn (Bairds mill) and some to Ky, Others to Abbeville SC. 96 district where John Batte died 1803. His sons William and Alexander moved accross the border into Ga. 1799. I think in NC Benjamin and a John Smith were sent out at one time as SEARCHERS of what?I'm still learning. Now: as I said:I love this country,I am today 80 years old, I have served in the European theatre of action as a machine gunner and Traveled in every state of the union. Thanks for helping me learn a history lesson. Hope to hear more from all you good and great people. Fred
