Page 12 The Last Will and Testament of JAMES CARTER in 96 District, deceased, dated the 9th November 1779, being carried into North Carolina as the said JAMES CARTER'S widow was probated in North Carolina, lincoln County, by THOMAS CARTER and SARAH CARTER, tow of the subscribing witnesses. The other witness BENJAMIN JOHNSTON, before ROBERT ALEXANDER and JAMES JOHNSTON Esqrs. by virtue of a dedimus to them directed and dated the 17th of June 1782. The said THOMAS CARTER returned the above will into the Ordinary's office the 22d of August 1782 and qualified as executor. Other executors LITTICE MCFARLAND (alias CARTER)not qualified, ROBERT CARTER (deceased). Give a copy of said will. August 30th. Granted Letters Testamentary to THOMAS CARTER, and warrant of appraiement. Swore as appraisers SAMUEL WIMBISH, PETER STUBES?, and ALEXANDER CLAK. Wife to have 1/3 of estate during her life, then to be equally divided among children "as they come to lawful age". If any child should die, their share to be divided among the rest.
