    3. There were some Speer's and Miller's that married into the Hodges Family in Jefferson Co., Alabama, Any kin? I have been hunting the Parents Names of my GG Grandfather, Leroy H. Hodges born in 1806, he was in Laurens Co., in 1830 then in Abbeville Co., the Old 96th Dist in the 1840 Census, and then on to Jefferson Co., Alabama in the 1850 Census where he died. One of Leroy's Grand Son's was Charles Wesley Hodges married a << Maggie >> Margaret Frances Brake, which was related into the Speer Family. Just curous about whether Abbeville was a gateway to the deeper south or just why so many seemed to come from and end up in the same places. > > Some of the family names: Young (reputed Cherokee), Miller (Methodist preacher), Speer (married a Young), Copeland (married a Miller), Clowdus and Murpree (married a Clowdus). > > I've really just started my research and am not organized yet, but these coincidences caught my attention. Any websites out there about the history of Abbeville?
