There are two items that should be of great interest to anyone trying to understand early 19th century Abbeville District settlement. First, there is a collection GIF image files for the 1820 census of Abbeville District. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/sc/abbeville/census/1820/ Second, there is an online image of the 1825 Robert Mills Landowner's Map of Abbeville District. This does -NOT- display all landowners. Instead, it displays principal and important landowners and sites such as mills, meeting houses, etc. as were found during a survey of the district in 1820. Both the census and the survey were conducted in the -SAME- year! This map image can be zoomed into and scrolled across in search of place names and those places where important personages resided. http://www.davidrumsey.com/maps860022-23855.html If you can find your ancestors in that listing of the 1820 census alongside their neighbors, then you can compare those neighbors against that map's display of landowners.
