I'm trying to find out if the above Thomas Evans and Daniel W. Evans are the same people as my great grandfather Daniel W. Evans and great, great grandfather Thomas G. Evans. My Daniel W. Evans was born 3 April 1847, which makes him the same age as the Daniel listed in the James Evens household. Some records show my Daniel was born in Shelby County, Alabama, but other records show he was born in South Carolina. According to Daniel's death certificate, his mother was Mary Rountree. I don't have any more information on Mary Rountree. My Daniel's father was Thomas G. Evans. Everything I've seen about Thomas indicates he was born in South Carolina. I don't have a birth date, but I'm guessing he was born around 1820. My theory is that Thomas Evans and Mary Rountree were married in South Carolina, perhaps Abbeville County, and had two children, Oliver and Daniel. Mary died after Daniel was born and before the 1850 census. It appears that Thomas and Daniel moved to Shelby County, Alabama, but I don't know when. Thomas and Daniel appear in the 1860 Shelby County, Alabama, census. Thomas is listed (as "T.J.") with his wife, Johannah. (Thomas and Johanna, or Joanah, were married 3 March 1858 in Columbiana, Alabama.) I don't know what happened to Oliver, except it's possible that he also moved to Shelby County and is the Oliver Evans who lived next door to Thomas and Joanah in the 1860 census.
