They might have some history and a biography of him. I have found some information about one of my ancestors in a book that was written on the history of a county (in GA). They were discussing the development of the schools and poof, there was her name and a VERY brief bio, as being one of the first teachers in the county. My grandfather was born in Abbeville 1876, raised a Presbyterian, but became a Methodist minister. I found his bio in the North Georgia Conference archives. 3. Hi, Before 1850. I would have to check my paper files, but if you haven't seen Temperance LOMAX by now, you may not have her in your family. That is not our line...that I know of. I think I've done a bit of work on the LOMAX name cut can't find them right now. I see this name in my VA-NC-SC Index of Wills books. It seems like Temperance LOMAX was from a NC family. Thanks so much for response. How far do you take the line, if I'm not too nosy. 3. Is there a child listed that is the same age as your ancestor, with a different name? This might be the person you are looking for. My grandfather was listed in the household with his mother and stepfather with the same lsurname as his stepfather. It took me several times reviewing the records before I realized it was my grandfather. 3. Have you contacted the Presbyterian church or the school where he was employed. Just some other places to look. > I have searched by first name only because it's unique. I > have searched last name only to see if it could have > possibly been misspelled which does happen. 1. [SCABBEVI] Arnoldus Miller
    2. Because Eliza is so much younger than George it makes me wonder if she was his daughter instead of his wife, and maybe she had an illegitimate son. If your ancestor Arnoldus was illegitimate, often times the illegitimate were left off the census. Then again, he could simply be in another household listed by another name. It happens. 3. I had a grandmother, who, at the age of 10, was living with and doing housework for a local preacher. Have you tried searching the census for him by name instead of looking in other's households. > Can someone help me with where a child could be at the age > of 9? 3. I have searched by first name only because it's unique. I have searched last name only to see if it could have possibly been misspelled which does happen. Because his father was 71 in the 1850 census, it makes me wonder if he was sent away to have someone else raise him. But his mother was young enough to raise him. I know he went on to be a teacher and a reverend of a Presbyterian church. So I thought he might have gone off to get an education. This family did have money. Thanks for your time. 3. Can someone help me with where a child could be at the age of 9? My ggg grandfather Arnoldus Miller, son of George and Eliza, born 1841 is not with his parents in the 1850 census. George and Eliza are in Abbeville, South Carolina, Savannah River Regiment area. Is there a school where boys were sent? I can't find him anywhere, and I know he's hiding somewhere. Thanks for any thoughts. Shelly
