    1. [Abbeville] KELLER, Green, African American, Smithville 1853 - 1900
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/GeB.2ACI/891 Message Board Post: My grandfather George S. OLIVER's half-sister Ophelia EDMONDSON married a George KELLER in Topeka KS (Shawnee cty) circa 1920. I was not able to determine if they had any children, and they were divorced by the 1930 census. Was curious about this KELLER family - wondered what brought them to KS from South Carolina (place of birth listed for him in 1920) and so did a little digging today. Here's what I found: George KELLER, was born abt 1899 in South Carolina. In the 1930 census in Topeka KS - he is listed on the same page with his grandfather John Green KELLER age 82, who is living with his daughter Nancy (50 - see 1880) and son-in-law George FISHER , also from SC. The 1910 census finds John G (Green) KELLER 63 mulatto, in Topeka with wife Mahala 60, and grandson George, 9. She is listed as married 40 years, 5 children born, 4 living. Then we shift states: In 1900 - this family, headed by Green KELLER is in Smithville township, Abbeville County SC. Grandson George is one year old (listed as grandson). I wonder what happened to his father and mother? Two of Green and Mahala's daughters are also in the household, and a son-in-law surnamed FISHER Jumping back to 1880 - there is a son George - among other children - who I am going to assume at this point is the father of the George who married my grand-dad's sister. 1880 Census Place: Smithville, Abbeville, South Carolina Source: FHL Film 1255217 National Archives Film T9-1217 Page 382C Relation Sex Marr Race Age Birthplace Green KELLAR Self M M B 27 SC Occ: Farm Laborer Fa: SC Mo: SC Mahala KELLER Wife F M MU 26 SC Occ: Farm Laborer Fa: SC Mo: SC Elizabeth KELLAR Dau F S MU 11 SC Fa: SC Mo: SC George KELLER Son M S MU 9 SC Fa: SC Mo: SC Anna KELLER Dau F S MU 7 SC Fa: SC Mo: SC Mary KELLER Dau F S MU 5 SC Fa: SC Mo: SC Nancy KELLER Dau F S MU 3 SC In 1870 Green KELLER (20) and wife "Mollie" (23) are listed as farm laborers, and there are 2 children in the household - a daughter Jane 3 and a baby George. The trail stops here - unless I want to jump the brick wall into slavery - since I see no black or mulatto KELLERS listed in 1860. I do see 2 slave holders surnamed KELLER listed so I must assume (for now) that this is where the name KELLER originates from in this family: KELLER, E. MRS. State: SC Year: 1860 County: Abbeville County Record Type: Slave Schedule Township: No Twp Listed Page: 053 Database: SC 1860 Slave Schedule KELLER, JOHN F. State: SC Year: 1860 County: Abbeville County Record Type: Slave Schedule Township: No Twp Listed Page: 053 Database: SC 1860 Slave Schedule This may be of interest to direct KELLER descendents - I'm more interested in what precipitated the move from Abbeville cty SC to Shawnee cty KS. It is not a typical migration pattern. Would love to hear from any KELLER researchers. Denise

Surnames: LITTLE AND HEDGES Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/GeB.2ACI/307.1 Message Board Post: I am a descendant of Charles Little and his wife Mary who lived for some time in Warrick County, Indiana. Charles Little as I understand it was born in Abbeville, SC and he died and is buried next to his wife Mary in Bethany Cemetery in Warrick County, Indiana. Charles and Mary had at least one child...Rachel, and she is my ggggggrandmother. She married Josiah Hedges (shows as Hodge on one Muhlenberg County, Kentucky marriage record database) in 1807. She and Josiah moved to Warrick County at some point and, of course, her parents both ended up in Warrick County where they eventually died and were buried. Rachel and Josiah Hedges had a daughter named Rachel who married Noah Fuquay of Warrick County. They, too, lived and died in Warrick County, Indiana. I I am particularly interested in discovering Charles and/or Mary Little's history prior to their arrival in Indiana. I would love to know more about his stated father Thomas Little and would like to know the source so that I can get documentation for my records. If anyone has such information or at least some leads to help me, I would appreciate your help.

    2. Carole S. Walker
    3. Aaron Weeks Sr of Edgefield County SC Facts & Fallacies There are several myths regarding Aaron Weeks Sr, who died in Edgefield County SC during 1824, and regarding his family that have become commonly related as established facts by many genealogical researchers, although they are based entirely on errors in existing secondary and lower literature sources. (Wooley) a.. That Aaron Weeks Sr had a daughter named Nancy who married Solomon Walker. a.. Aaron Weeks Sr did not have any daughters named Nancy. b.. It was Aaron Weeks Sr's widow, Nancy, who remarried to Solomon Walker. c.. --------- d.. From this conclusion we find that Nancy Weeks is not the mother of my Burton Chesley Walker, nor of any of Soloman's children. We do not know who e.. the mother is. Bob Weeks has set us straight on this family. Thanks, Carole in SC
