    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Brown Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/GeB.2ACI/959 Message Board Post: My great-great-grandfather, John W. Brown, was the chief carpenter on the Diamond Springs Hotel, located in upper Abbeville County, near the Savannah River. In 1837, twenty men invested certain amounts of money in a company known as the Diamond Springs Company. Some of these people were among those responsible for the Secession. The Diamond Springs Company was organized for the purpose of establishing, furnishing, and keeping a house of entertainment at Diamond Springs. The hotel was built in 1838 by John W. Brown. It was named for the company and a nearby spring, carved in the shape of a diamond, which was said to have medicinal values and cured many diseases. The hotel was a summer resort for pleasure seekers, as well as those who came to drink the waters of the mineral springs in the years before the Civil War. The family has only two photos of the hotel; one is not very clear, and the other one only shows a group of people sitting on the porch, which was built high enough off the ground for a horse and topless buggy to drive underneath. If anyone has a photo of some ancestors taken at this hotel, please get in touch and let me know. We feel like surely someone has an old photo in a box somewhere, that doesn't mean anything to them, but it would mean the world to John W. Brown's family. Please reply here, or contact me at: [email protected], or [email protected] Thanks very much!

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Hall, Brown Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/GeB.2ACI/950.2 Message Board Post: Mary, Thank you for this great information. I found this book listed on the Abbeville gen website one time, but the person's email attached to it was not working. I would be interested in buying this book if I knew my relatives from that area were listed. If you are still being so kind as to do look-ups, would you please tell me if either of the following persons might be listed. (Unfortunately, my earliest Brown relative didn't die until 1897, but I do have some Halls in that area.) Just in case there is something other than a will, please check on these few names: JOHN W. BROWN, of Moseley (Abbeville County), he lived there from around 1838 - until his death in 1897. He was the chief carpenter for the Diamond Springs Hotel in the area and might have had his name on some document. And these Halls from Anderson County in that time frame: JOHNSON HALL, SR., 1785 - 1873 (Son of Fenton and Hannah Brown Hall, lived in First Creek area and later Little Mountain area, but then moved to Rome, GA) JOHNSON HALL, JR., November 11, 1811 - March 25, 1895 (born in Roberts Church Community to Johnson Hall, Sr. and Elizabeth Roberts Hall, lived here until death). First wife, Elizabeth Lackey died June 15, 1849; married second Sarah Catherine Ashley Hall, she died January 9, 1923. Johnson Hall, Jr. was one of the founding members of Union Baptist Church. Thank you so much for your assistance. Joanne B. Revell

    1. Jacob Martin, 1800
    2. Is anyone researching the Martins who were in Pendleton and Abbeville, SC, around 1800(+/-)? Apparently, the Jacob Martin was in Pendleton in 1790 and 1800 and later removed to Abbeville. Or, they may have been in a part of Pendleton that became Abbeville? Is the Thomas P. and Matthew Martin who are living near Jacob connected? [email protected]

    1. Re: Ancestry One World Tree
    2. Hi, Below are the facts direct from RootsWeb/MyFamily/Ancestry. As always, feel free to contact either Ancestry's Customer Solutions - http://ancestry.custhelp.com or RootsWeb's HelpDesk - http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com as needed. [email protected], Patrice At the end of April, Ancestry.com released a preview of a new service called the OneWorldTreeSM service. This preview is just the first step toward a powerful new tool for your genealogical research. The preview status of the release has prompted questions and speculation. We hope the following information will help clear up some of the confusion regarding the OneWorldTree service. OneWorldTree does two things. € First, it searches family history records. It does not modify or replace the original records. € Second, it compiles the information in an effort to group the ones that go with a given person (a process we call ³stitching²), and provides references to the original sources. The first collection of records stitched into OneWorldTree was the Ancestry World Tree. Ancestry.com will continue to add records to the OneWorldTree system in an effort to provide more valuable data for our users, including trees, census records, and vital records. RootsWeb¹s World Connect Project is among the databases that will be searched and stitched as part of the OneWorldTree service. Family Trees submitted through Ancestry World Tree and RootsWeb World Connect are free and will remain free. Any options chosen by submitters with respect to GEDCOM download and source display will still work the same way. OneWorldTree doesn¹t contain those trees, it contains links that help people find them. We hope that the genealogy community will see the value of searching and stitching in the greater context of sharing family history information, and that they will add and update their trees. In order to be included in OneWorldTree, family trees must meet certain criteria. If you want to be sure that your tree will be included in the new OneWorldTree service, or if for any reason you do not want your tree to be part of OneWorldTree, please visit http://trees.ancestry.com/owt/checklist.aspx for more information. 1. Ancestry
    2. Maryellen
    3. For once, it is not just a rumor. The Ancestry site does have a message that they will sell your data as is after May 21st. Many of you may have a listing on Ancestry without knowing it as they have taken all the datas at Rootsweb and listed them ,notes and all, even if you requested they not publish notes.I have seen listings wherein I was musing to myself..sometimes bad jingles as Ancestry also has allowed anyone to upload anything even if you requested no unloads..it's a bit of a shock to read your interior thoughts all over cyberland. Actually, they have a sliding timetable as to when they will begin to charge just to look at the freely donated datas.Rootsweb has for years been the model of pure sharing and searching for the joy of it. I guess this makes them decoys or pimps..I'm not sure which. How long before Big Brother Ancestry decids it must extract a fee for Mail sites ?We all knew that merged stank. It's sad, and I'm angry. Surnames: Scott, Taylor, Hall Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/GeB.2ACI/957 Message Board Post: I need help in finding accurate information on the Lawson Scott family. I show Lawson as being listed on the 1850 mortality records as having been murdered on Sept.9,1849 in the Vienna area of Abbeville. I have not been able to validate the murder......also some Scott family members ( Of the Georgia Scott connection) have told me that the information they have indicates that Lawson was hung . Lawson's widow, Martha Patsy Taylor Scott marries a former hired hand named Savage Hall. She has two children with him. She is shown with him on the 1860 census. By the 1870 census Martha Patsy Taylor Scott Hall goes back to usuing her SCOTT last name. I have lost track of her at this point. Any information would be greatly appreciated. I would also be grateful for leads determining the actual parents of Lawson and Lemuel Scott. I thank you , Melody B. Scott
