    2. I am descended from Robert Richey and Rebecca Belton through their son William, born in South Carolina 1 Feb 1796. I am looking for parents and siblings of Robert and Rebecca. A note from the files of Leonardo Andrea says "William Richey had a son, Robert Ritchey b. 1775 married Rebecca Belton (Dtr. William Belton) of Laurens and they had a son, William Richey b. 1796 m. 1820 to Margaret Adair b. 1808 in Charleston and said to have been the daughter of Thomas Adair b. 1771 and his wife, Margaret Adair. Robert Ritchey resided at Newberry County near Laurens line." Do you have any information on this William or any William Richeys from about this time? I would appreciate any help.

    2. Bill, There seems to have been an Abbeville connection between the Greens and the Martins, and also, possibly with the Olivers, do you know anything about the Catherine Green who was living next door to a Margaret Martin in the 1830 census? Was this the same Catherine Green who was associated with the Ester Woods estate settlement earlier? I don't mean to cause you trouble but in my Martin research I have wondered about this question. 1. Green Family, Abbeville Co., 1760s-1820s
    2. William Lindsey
    3. Dear Abbeville List, Seeking information on a Green family who appear in the Long Canes settlement by 1768. My earliest proven Green ancestor is John Green, who was b. 21 Jan. 1768, probably in the Long Canes settlement, and d. 18 March 1837 in Bibb Co., AL. Around 1788, probably in Abbeville Co., he m. Jane, daughter of Samuel Kerr and Mary Calhoun of the Long Canes settlement. Jane was b. 8 Oct. 1768 in Abbeville Co., and d. 2 Nov. 1855 in Bibb Co., AL. I've done extensive work on John's ancestry, without being able to prove conclusively who his father was, but I have narrowed down the candidates to two men who came to the Long Canes settlement in the 1760s, and who may well have been brothers--an older John Green, and Benjamin Green. Bob Thompson recently kindly sent me a transcript of a 1798 letter of Felix Hughes of Natchez Dist., LA, to Ebenezer Miller in (Abbeville Co.?), which notes that Thomas Marston Green, with whom Hughes was then living as a tutor for his family, was asking about John Green. This is evidently my John Green, who had moved over by that time to Pendleton Dist., where he settled on the east side of the Keowee near his wife's uncles John Ewing Colhoun and Gen. Andrew Pickens. It seems possible that Thomas Marston Green was related to the John Green family. I have quite a bit of information on my Green family in Abbeville Co., and will gladly share it with anyone interested in this family. I'd also be happy to hear from anyone with information to share. Bill Lindsey
