Billie Jones Match: Edgefield AND SC Source: KYCARTER-L@rootsweb.com From: Cassy Sommers <foe3643@mac.com> Subject: Re: KYCARTER-D Digest V02 #53 Phyllis, Thank you so much for responding. It would seem to me that there may have been two completely different set of Messer families in Carter County. My Messers that went to Carter County from Knox County and before that they were from Edgefield County, South Carolina. I wonder if the Jacob Messer and Nancy Colburn you speak of that came from South Carolina was a brother to my John Messer. Do you know if this last Jacob is a son of James Messer b. 1735 died 1784 in Edgefield County, South Carolina or at that time known as District 96? Will of James MESSER The will of James MESSER is on file in the office of Judge of Probate at Abbeville, SC. It was probated in 1784. He lived in the 96th District of SC. I have just finished photographing and indexing and annotating the Horsley Cemetery in Carter Co. Been working on this project far longer than I thought I'd be. (And hopefully in the near future I'll be able to learn how to get all this to the Carter Co. web site !!) Life has been busy, and I've just gotten into church records in Germany on my husband's lines. What a treat!!!! So have spent a lot of time on the Raker and Obertate lines(Carroll Co., KY) Frank, 1874 - 1953, and Pearlie (COLLIER), 1882 - 1966, MESSER are buried in Horsley Cemetery. Horsley Cem. is also called Rock Springs. and Greenup Co. calls it the Zornes Cemetery. Frank is the son of Jacob, 1846 - 1925, and Mary E. (McGUIRE) Messer. Jacob is the son of Jacob Messer, b. South Carolina, and Nancy COBURN. Mary E. 1853 - 1927 is the daughter of James McGUIRE and Elizabeth HANEY. Pearlie (Collier) Messer is the daughter of Newton Collier. Children of Jacob and Mary E. Messer: Morton, Frank, Elizabeth (Green), Eliza E. (Green), Srilda (Newman) Children of Frank and Pearlie Collier Messer are: Ted, William N., Charlie, Elsie, Dove (Archie Adkins) William N. 1905 - 1995, married Margaret E. 1900 - 1978. She was the daughter of John Will and Veria Haney. Children were Cleatis, Otto, Ardith, John F. Adam, Lowell I t is not guaranteed that the above is complete. Some of the information came from death certificates in Kentucky, other info from local people in Carter Co. Let me know if your dates and info don't add up to what I have. Because mine is typed into the index. My interest in Horsley Cemetery is that my great grandparents COUNTS, and their three sons and wives are buried there (one son being my grandfather.)
