    1. [Old96] Martha Hodges - Pendleton Co. 96th District - 1790
    2. Hi folks, I am new to the list, an old geezer, and am somewhat "computer challenged". I sent the message below on the 27th but probably to the wrong address. So if it shows up twice, please excuse me. Also, I have made a few changes since the first effort. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ My "brick wall" ancestor, James Hodges, lived in the area that is now Halifax Co. VA about 1725 to the mid 1780s. He left many footprints along the way, such as land grants and sales, processioning, 10,000 member petition, a chancery case, etc. He died and left a will in Newberry Co, SC in 1787. The will was dated 19 May 1787 and proven 5 June 1787. It was witnessed by a son, Joseph Hodges, who later appeared on the Clark Co. GA census in 1820 and 1830. Three other children also when to Georgia, each to a different county. Daughter Christriana went to Jackson Co. and my "single-source" researcher showed her last name as STORY. She was supposed to be on the 1820 census but I haven't confirmed this. Daughter Rebecca's husband Hailey Shaw does show up on the 1830 census in DeKalb Co. Daughter Martha's (Patty) husband, Robert Shaw, is on the 1830 Conval (sp.?) Co. census. Martha Hodges, the wife of James, is reported by an early Hodges researcher to have died in "Pendleton Co. 96th District" in 1790. Are there any records that would verify her death or burial and where might they be? Maybe a will? I think there were boundary changes and I'm wondering which county would have the records for 1790. I would appreciate any suggestions about where I should look for other information about Martha, and other members of the family who went to Georgia Jim Hodges Richmond, VA Ps. I descend from another son, Jesse, who went to Wilson Co. TN abt. 1997. We have a good deal of information on Jesse and his descendants.
